SHOW OFF YOUR PEDALBOARD!

IMG_6023.jpeg

Downsized from my larger 24” board back to my trusty Boss BCB-1000 by removing some stuff I wasn’t using enough. Added the Goodwood Audition so I can easily insert any other pedal when I want to try them. Handy piece of gear to have! I’ll also Velcro a Tonex One to the top of it and into the loop if I need/want to go direct.

Here is the latest iteration of my mini board. This is my grab and go special so things move on and off regularly on short notice, but here it is setup for use into an amp but with room to stick a Tonex One at the end.

The latest addition is the Donner dynamic way to replace a larger Microtron IV or an even larger Mutron clone. It came recommended by a couple guys on the Dead forum, so I took the small gamble and it was easy to dial in and sounds great! The smaller format means I have plenty of room to keep the Spring when I add the Tonex instead of having to do a swap on the left end.

Powered by a DC7 underneath (giving 18 volts to the Dukes) with an open power cable to add a wah, univibe or whatever on the floor next to it.

Nice and neat! How do you like the Carbon Copy Mini? Contemplating getting one but might settle for a big one. Is the bright mode anything useable?

I like it a lot, but my delay needs are very simple. I am never trying to be the Edge or do anything where timing matters or even where the delay is overly prominent.

I would say bright mode is very usable, but the switch is not. It’s a tiny thing buried in a bad location, so it’s more of a try it both ways and pick one to stick with for a while type of thing IMHO.

I don’t see any advantage to the full size, so if I were to get another analog delay so I could keep one on each board, it would probably be another CC mini.

Nice, thanks for the info! I’ll probably go for a mini. It’s for my ”fully analog” rig so it’ll mostly sit in the FX loop of my amp before my weird spring reverb (Gamechanger Light pedal). I think I have a case of ”algorithm fatigue” from dialing in delays and reverbs on my outgoing HX Stomp so looking forward to the simplicity and knobs (until I get my hands on an AM4 at least).

I owned the carbon copy, sold it, a couple years later bought a mini, sold it and bought the carbon copy again. Both are great but it seemed like the mix and feedback controls were a bit limited on the mini compared to the big one. I couldn’t get it to do the runaway oscillation thing like the big one. I don’t need to make spaceship noises anyway, that’s not why I went back to the big one, just something I noticed. I only sold the mini because of its size. I didn’t use the bright mode, I prefer the darker CC tone.

I still prefer the transistor tape in my hx stomp for anything more than one or two repeats. The CC is great as a slapback but I don’t like the way the decaying repeats get thin and clicky.

There’s a used normal CC available locally here and your story makes me think. I do hate the placement of the power input on MXR pedals though.

Agree on the Transistor Tape in Helix, been my go-to in that ecosystem!

Yeah, I don’t know what they were thinking putting it so close to the input jack.

Transistor tape is so good I sold my el capistan v2. I was only using the single setting on the el capistan anyway. Kinda wish I kept it though.

Great board! Lightspeed and ODR-1 Anniversary are two of my all-time favorite drive pedals!

Seemed like the small clone switch was getting noisier and noisier so I am using plastichorus on the stomp for my fast rotary chorus thing instead, sounds great. Flint v2 now handling harmonic tremolo and plate reverb and it sounds great, a definite step up from those options in the stomp, though the stomp does hold up well. Ernie Ball VP Jr 25k is the perfect expression pedal for the stomp by the way.

Ugh... I keep rotating fuzzy drives on my board.

One voice is a Super Fuzz and it's here to stay, but compared to that, every drive I'll try ends up not 100% "there", sounding lifeless and dull, lacking cut/mids and feeling like the volume is too low.

Twin Bender: loving it, but the Super Fuzz overpowers it easily

Fat Boost V1: sounds rad and tight, lack of time shaping except the treble cut tho

MYR Diavolo: nice tweaked TS, yet somewhatmehhhhh....

Zoar: STELLAR, but the mids frequency sits too low to cut when turned up

Etc

For now, I got back to my trusty old SFT, but I'm already considered checking out the Dumbloid again.

Was it you that has that danelectro super fuzz? I have it in my cart on amazon for 120, wanting to give it a try. I have the plastic Behringturd one, my only Behringturd pedal, sounds so good but I don’t want to put it on my board with all my nice stuff.

Yes, the Eisenhower is a sleeper!

I'd definitely stick it on my board again if it weren't for the EQD Fuzz Master General or Tru-Fi Super Fuzz.

Grab it if the price is good, I think you're in for a nice surprise! Based on the FZ-2, which is what the Behringturd is a copy of - but without the boost mode. Very sturdy build, and the relic aesthetic looks better than I expected.

Sounds really good, definitely a legit Super Fuzz variant.

Changed my plans and ultimately ordered a TC Electronic Bucket Brigade instead of a Carbon Copy. Repeats seem a bit darker and there is a Depth knob for the modulation which I’ll probably use a lot. Plus the in/out jacks and power is on the top! Trying not to do copies (insert Carbon Copy joke here) of pedals on my little board but with the physical properties I know I’ll like this one more than the original and I’ll save about 100 euros as well.

This is a tough one for sure!

Just this afternoon, I've spent 3 hours figuring out what to use.

So far, top contenders are the SFT and a Fulltone Ultimate Octave... 😱

HBE UFO and WA Foxy Tone Box sound similar to the Fulltone, but have slightly less girth to them, which is what makes 90% of that mysterious Super Fuzz "mojo".

EDIT / UPDATE: For now, the EHX Bender Royale took the spot! Seems it does what I want, despite a slight lack of clarity, but I guess you can't have everything.

Lovely HX Stomp + pedals board! This is the shit!
