SHOW OFF YOUR PEDALBOARD!

*drumroll*

After the success of "Done: Or Am I...?" and "Done 2: Electric Boogaloo", last night saw the mancave-wide premiere of the long expected "Done 3: This Time For Real".

I replaced the Danelectro Eisenhower with a locally-sourced (go Hipsters!) top-notch craftsmanship DIY clone of the EQD Fuzz Master General (top right corner).

Tough fight between the two, but the FMG is a tad more versatile, has even less noise, AND takes the board one step closer to monochrome (again, hipster cred level-up) - we have a winner!

Cue "final boss" theme: a long A/B sit-in against the Helix Floor appears on the horizon.

Soon. 😂

Too soon! Here's "Done 4: What Was He Thinking?"

Have any of you ever heard about the T-Rex 8 Ball Dual Octave before? Yeah, me neither, until I posted the above pic of my "completed" board. Suddenly, one was listed locally (15 minutes from where I live) for 60€, and I started googling to check out what it was:

- polyphonic octave
- two WYSIWYG presets
- good reviews
- decent footprint
- limited/discontinued
- BLACK enclosure

Went and bought it. 🤷‍♂️

It nudged the POG 2 off board. I wasn't using all the bells and whistles (filter, attack, detune/chorus, etc.) anyway and kept switching between two alternating presets stored on odd/even slots, so the 8 Ball's simplicity came in handy.

Tracking is on par with the POG family. Feels like two Micro POG's in one box - although the dry mix is global.

This one is WAY under the radar, there's very few reviews online. Seems to have been a Thomann exklusive release back in 2018, along with other T-Rex 20th anniversary pedals.

Couldn't hold back, like at all. Two pedals and a cab, all within one week? Guess I gotta stop this for now... Please remind me the next time I'm raving about an "exciting" new pedal purchase. 😂😂😂

Here's a pic:

I did, but it always was under my radar.
Does it do polyphonic stuff?
Yes, and the tracking is pretty good.

Better than the EHX Pitch Fork, for example.

Which is actually a mystery, since I thought that one's using the same POG algo, but the Pitch Fork sounds different - underwhelmingly so.

EDIT: You didn't read my full post above, did ya? 😅

They’re Danes so it might be T-Rex/TC collab. It would then be a sub’n’up algo inside?

Very interesting. My first pedals was a bunch of T-Rex big boxes. Replica, Mudhoney, Tremster, a dual od (can’t remember name). Good pedals although they were big and bulky

While I get the point, it'd suprise me.

I had a TC Sub'n'up for a while and found it lacked something, so I sold it on. Tracking was "okay" at best, the T-Rex is definitely superior.

Think i have landed on some kind of plan now. The empty spots shall have something later on. Need a modulation or trem or something on the empty spot to left. The other empty spot must have a distortion of some kind. Something between Honey Bee politeness and Carcosa madness.
IMG_8161.jpeg

So the chain goes:
Comp->Volume->Honey Bee->T2 Reverb->?->Carcosa->Digidelay->Obscura->?->Wet->Infinite Sustainer->360 Looper->ACS1

The T2 was kinda hanging loose, but I doubt i will find any kind of reverb for that price that fits so good before dirt, because of its extreme nature (not a subtle reverb by any means) and modulations. It makes the fuzz sing and scream with overtones and weird noises and whatnot. And if i want to, I’ll use it clean for swelling ambient or let the Honey Bee work as a dirt before reverb but early chain.

To be continued.

And oh… I hate the damn tuner… it’s not optimal but it works, it’s connected to the tuner out from the volume pedal. I didn’t like the Polytune buffer and decided it would take precious space so i dropped it in sideways there just laying loose.

@the swede; Personally, if I had to choose between modulation and trem, I'd choose trem. But that's just me. For modulation; have you considered the PastFX Elastic Mattress? I love mine!

Leaning towards trem, but looking for something that has something more. I think they’re often chorus+vibe if they’re double functional.

I could see myself getting a Flint and replace the Wet.

Done: Lies, Lies, & More Lies.

This is my practice board for use outside on my deck. I use it with headphones so I don't bother anyone. All are pedals that didn't make my main pedalboard in my office. Most were black so I took apart the Verb Square reverb and the Tutti Love chorus (not wired, just a swap pedal) and painted them black. Looks cool to my eye. Order is Uni-Vibe > RTO (tweaked OCD) > Mosky Silver Horsey > Cheapo Mesa Flux Drive clone > Flanger > Trelicopter trem > Echoplex delay > Verb Square reverb > Looper

Ok pedals, cables, color theme, all is well…

And for a second I actually thought: “ahh, he misplaced a sex toy on the pedal board haha”… then I realized it’s a receiver plugged in there.. silly me

I'm still working out the MIDI setup for my TK preamp board, but I've configured the Graviton M2 with all of the CC message types for the TK preamp, Echolution 3, Pantheon Deluxe, El Capistan, and the Suhr microMIDI control.

I have set each device to its own MIDI channel and verified they are reacting to the sent CCs.

Cabling is a PITA because of the mixture of connector types (5 pin DIN, 1/8" TRS, 1/4" TRS) and the lack of MIDI thru outputs on most of the pedals.

I'm using the CME WIDI Thru6 BT hub to distribute messages out of the M2. Only issue is that it can only be powered by 5v USB-C. Tested initially using a battery pack.

Replaced the battery with a 9v to 5v converter wired with Cioks RCA on the input, and usb-c on the output

Now it's time to connect everything and test.

Wish me luck.
