Roland GP-100

I’m thinking about building a modern editor for Mac Intel/Silicon, Windows 10/11 with DAW support for either the GP-100, SX-700 or GX-700 for my next project (following the TOPD X-70 editor for the Boss SE-70 and TOPD UF-1 editor for the Boss VF-1). DAW integration can really take these boxes to the next level. Does anyone happen to have a midi implementation chart for the GP-100. I found out that one was floating around a while back but I haven’t been able to get my hands on it yet. It’s not essential but helpful.

Current progress for the TOPD UF-1 can be found here: Link

This was my rig from 1996-2016 (something like that).

Yeah the GP100 is a good unit. Obviously different than modern processors but there's definitely some cool tones there.

I used a GP8 for a while in the 80s, feeding it into a Peavey power amp and 2 2x12 cabs :rofl . It sounded surprisingly good. I sold it later to get a Laney AOR and an Alesis Midiverb II..... Ah the 80s.... :grin

Anyway, the GP series is cool and it's been widely used for a long time. Very cool to make a video about it in 2025.

Thanks, man. I’ll hook up my GP-100 tonight.
Aw, something that I forgot about was that you need firmware 1.04 (or something like that) to use the MIDI features that work with the application. Mine is an earlier version and doesn’t work with that application. I did have fun messing with my GP-100 but I’m probably not going to make use of it.

Eh? There were never any firmware updates for the GP-100.

I didn't know that. How do you check the firmware version?
There’s a button or two that you have to press when you switch it on. I’ll figure it out today.

Edit- Hold down PREAMP and WRITE and turn on the unit. I have 1.03 that didn’t work properly with the application.

Anyone know of a current production replacement for the encoders? These things are so old that the recommended replacements seem to be longer available either. :giggle:

Edit: Wonder if these would work?
