RIP Ozzy :(

Fuck….

I was wondering what this was going to be like when I watched the show last week. Now I know.

One of my first introductions to Ozzy was uncle’s answering machine in the 80’s; he’d change his message to say “I’ll only call you back if you name this song!” then play a riff from a tune. My mom called one day, I hear her get pissed and say “I don’t fucking know Ron, answer your fucking phone”, hangs up and a second later Ron calls her back and says she got it right. :rofl

Then when I ‘discovered’ him as a guitar player when I was 12 when the “Perry Mason” vid came on and introduced me to Zakk Wylde. Right after that I was bugging my uncle to school me on Ozzy and that’s when I went down the rabbit hole and never really came out.

The best gift I ever got from Ozzy, that I’m truly thankful for, was seeing him in 2018. I was so jaded by live shows, more envious/jealous and feeling like I had the carpet pulled out from under me as I came of age right as the music business as we knew it ceased to exist, I’d just feel bitter at many shows, but after a whole day of seeing these lip syncing and auto tuned motherfuckers then having Ozzy come out, sing the entire set a 1/4 step flat and having the time of his fucking life, it hit my reset switch. I couldn’t help but to be thrilled with what I was seeing, it was infectious. And it hasn’t let up since.

Thank you, Ozzy. My life would be entirely different had you not lived yours. I’d tell you to rest in peace, but there’s no way you’re not raising hell whenverever you are.

Man, tell me that dude wasn’t just waiting for his last gig. This tat means a bit more to me now-

RIP 😔
Thanks for Randy and Jake!

When I was 4 my uncle Dave let me borrow Paranoid on 8-track. I almost pooped myself when the scary “I am Iron Man” voice came on. 😱

RIP.
Heard some rumors he got put to sleep in Switzerland - not sure how true that is or not.
In any case, he went out with a bang & in dignity.

One of the great surprises of my music listening life was Blizzard of Oz back in 1980. I was still pretty young and was aware of Black Sabbath but didn't listen to them other that when they'd come on the radio. But Blizzard powered by Randy was so unexpected. Just the simple trick of dropping into the relative major for the verse of Crazy Train hooked me. Never followed him all that much after Randy died, but sorry to hear he's gone now too. It was nice he had his farewell recently.

Had a weird connection with Ozzy and his music over the years. There was a point in time where a personal situation had me not digging him for stupid reasons. So shocked. Came to my senses pretty darn quick to permanently tell myself the other person was an idiot and I shouldn't let them ruin an amazing artist and his discography.

So much great, diverse music in Sabbath and piles of KILLER tracks in his solo career. RIP to one of the greatest :satan

RIP, though not surprising. I told my girlfriend when I saw that Bill Ward was going to be there that he likely didn't have much longer on this Earth. The last really good album was Ozzmosis, but it was always great to see him release new stuff if for nothing else than to keep him active.

I wasn't feeling too sad until I opened IG and my entire feed is nothing but Ozzy pics and stories from people/bands he's touched/given their start to over the years and it's just endless and his impact can't be overstated. Between the whole forefather of metal and then the Ozzfest tours 30 years after, that's a long fucking time of inspiring people and giving them a leg up. There were the bands in the 80's he took out, Metallica namely, that credit him with their break into the music business, but then all those bands on the Ozzfest tours; Slipknot, Lamb Of God, Tool, Linkin Park, Mudvayne, System Of A Down, Limp Bizkit, etc bands that have had 30 year careers and are still capable of selling out arena shows. Fucking crazy.

I was about 10 or 11 when I started really listening to rock music and Ozzy was one of the first ones I picked up on, along with AC/DC and KISS. I got No More Tears on cassette around then and Ozzmosis shortly thereafter. My uncle took me to see him on the Retirement Sucks tour. Joe Holmes was his touring guitarist then. I didn’t know shit about who played what and when yet as I myself was just starting to play bass but I knew I loved Zakk Wylde’s guitar sound. I started listening to Sabbath too. Started with Master of Reality and that’s still my favorite Sabbath album. I got into the Randy stuff next and was playing guitar then. I got Tribute on CD and that blew my mind even more. Eventually I tracked down most of his solo discography on CD.

I’ve been an Ozzy fan since the day I heard him. I’ve learned more than a few Sabbath tunes and a few of his solo tunes. I love playing the song Diary of a Madman. I still think the No More Tears album has one of the ballsiest rock sounds ever. And while I haven’t always dug his later stuff, props to him for keeping active. And seeing him live was always a treat. I think I saw him solo 3 or 4 times and with Sabbath 3 times. And both Black Sabbath and his solo music influenced so many fucking people and bands. He’s a true legend.
