“Let down” might be a better phrase. Alongside giant fake tits, $0.99 Big Gulps, I should never underestimate the appeal to the lowest common denominator and “shiny shit” definitely fits in that box. The “I didn’t know I needed this but take my money” comments are doing a wonderful job at confirming my bias in this direction.


Really? It sounds and looks like a really solid product - it's the same touchscreen - I guess I don't get your analogy here. And I don't even have NDSP plugins or QC.

Seriously, though, I get you. But there are certain things you do on a modeler/MFX unit that are just perfectly suited to touchscreens - moving blocks being the most obvious.

Preferences are just that. I prefer not to deal with a mid-low grade tablet being baked into my gear. Knobs, switches, and buttons work for me. I accept that I am in the minority, but I will not be debated into agreeing under any circumstances that my preference is wrong.

I remember .. they promised everything. Every time someone asked "But will it be able to do this?" they never said "Uh, I'm not sure" or "no", but always confirmed it would do absolutely everything, even toast your bread and walk your dog.

If you get home and don’t want to stare at another screen, the rock Gods created the perfect device called a tube amp.

Neural just cutting to the chase with the Mini, being the mostest digitalist experience possible. The unit is the UI. Honestly this is about as good as you can get for a flagship level device in an ultra small form factor. Full UI - full power, fits in a purse.

True but who is doing that during live playing? So is it really needed? If someone is getting upset moving a block during making presets / sound designing, maybe they need to put instrument down and join a meditation group instead.
Obviously no one is programming their presets while performing live. But you're saying I need to join a meditation group because I appreciate an improvement in UX while I am programming presets. I don't see how this argument is made in good faith.

My opinion is that, yes, friendlier UIs are more convenient than difficult UIs. And touchscreens make UIs easier/faster no use. Obviously, I´m talking about well desgined touchscreen UIs... just the same as I´m talking about well designed classic UIs.
That's a valid opinion. My opinion is that touch screens add little to nothing for me, for a host of reasons more related ot the experience of using the gear than of 'workflow,' which I always work out. I guess I'm very used to learning gear.

And yes, with the example you cite, I do block moves with an editor no matter what the on-device interface has, because I don't want to hunch over the unit or clear desk space for it every time I want to do that kind of thing.
 
Some really like doing on-device editing, not necessarily during live playing. Some don't care. But I think the market has spoken and it seems clear that touchscreens are here to stay.
There are aways players and companies that zig when others zag. I don't worry that I'll be unable to find gear that works for me without touchscreens for the foreseeable future.
 
I need to disagree here. A big part of the "full UI" of the OG QC is the amount of encoders. And 10 vs. 4 encoders makes up for quite a significant change in UI experience. IMO at least.

For editing the lack of encoders might be better, because one encoder is changing values, and your other hand is either tapping what you want to edit or using the opposite scroll wheel.

On the OG the encoders don’t directly line up with the screen elements above them. So you get the occasional erroneous edit. That won’t be a problem on the mini.
 
Out of interest - what is still outstanding as far as what they promised - or at least talked about in order to get people to pre-order - for the QC nowadays?? I genuinely don't know. Haven't really been keeping track. Is it just the final plugins or something else ???

I dunno what’s left for outstanding items, I think whatever was left was fluff shit they made up to pad the announcement like the different reverbs/effects, but I see functionality requests often and seeing stuff like this (in a QC Mini post) makes me think if there’s fruit this low to the ground needing to be picked, that can’t be the only thing.

Certain things I do, like moving blocks? I mean, are there people who never move their blocks on MFX units?

I defenitely disagree again. When I'm editing, I usually have a guitar in my hands (and whenever possible, I hold a note or a chord as well), so two-handed editing isn't the greatest thing ever. Lotsa encoders with easy block selection however are just that, for me at least. Closest to hardware unit operation.

Oh, I'm aware of that and didn't like it the few times I had my hands on it.
I actually think the Helix Stadium has that nailed perfectly.

Seriously, I understand completely that my preference is a minority preference. But I state it now and then anyway so someone out thre knows there's a niche to be satisfied in letting people enjoy the benefits of modeling without having to work with a small Lenovo tablet in a metal case.

Fair. I mostly just play, not edit. I have editing sessions maybe once a month, then go back to playing. That's why the device lives on the floor. I only use the on-unit controls for changing presets/scenes, turning effects on and off, and making minor changes while paying.
