PRS without truss rod

I have two guitars with solid rosewood necks, no truss rod. They sound and play great. One I've had since 1998. Neck has never moved.

Where is this magical place of constant weather and constant humidity?

I have to adjust the truss rod seasonally here.

No worries. I don't follow Beato until I hear he interviews a musician I am actually interested in. Tim Pierce is a nice guy I am sure but nothing in this conversation holds any interest for me.
Yeah, I’m not a huge fan either, but the algorithm fed it to me and I needed something in the background. The PRS was a bonus.

Though his interview with Pat Metheny a while back was fantastic.

Interesting that he did it with solid rosewood.

The old aluminum neck Travis Beans did not have or need a truss rod, and had nut bridge and pickups all mounted to the neck which sustained great but they were a bit temperature sensitive. I have wondered about a laminated wood neck through design achieving the same thing without the sensitivity to temps. If PRS can do it with solid wood, it seems achievable although well outside my skill set!

a BIT? 😄 winter touring NOT recommended based on what ive seen 😄

in all seriousness- wood moves regardless of temps. compared to an aluminum neck, it just trades one set of problems for another.

A laminated wood neck can be made extremely stable in temps and humidity. I am surprised they are able to do it with solid rosewood but that must be a property of rosewood.

I have a Flaxwood Rautia that is made entirely of spruce fiber and resin. I think that would be a better material for something without a truss rod. Mine has a truss rod, but I've never adjusted it and I live in Finland where temps can be very harsh in the winter and jump around quite a bit otherwise.

Still, the truss rod was invented for good reason and we have plenty of guitars with one that sound just great, so I don't really see that these PRS would be an improvement.

Can someone explain the advantage of not having a truss rod? Isn’t that where all the toan semen is stored?
String energy is lost in the interactions between the parts and gaps. It’s the same reason that a vintage single rod sounds better than a modern double rod. Increase the air , metal , part count in a neck and the ability to retain the string enery is reduced.
Anyone using the word “ toane” is usually an idiot so I’m assuming that’s a mistake on your part. Unless you’re someone who thinks wood doesn’t matter?

Steve Klein moved to the solid rosewood necks when the Steinberger graphite necks were no longer going to be available because, in his words, it was the wood that was the most stable, moisture and temp resistant he could find.
