Power tube recommendations?

Using an Uber Ultra EL34 for death metal.

My amp sounds great so I cant really say what im missing or looking for, just like to nerd out and test things. Maybe less mid forward but still cutting through if thats even possible?

Im thinking 6CA7 because I did really like the 6L6 model of the Ultra but the one thing that makes me hesitant is that im reading they will have much higher headroom, my ears are already bleeding so I cant imagine turning up any louder to get the goods without attenuation.

Other than that I did really like the JJ E34L I tried decades ago.

Any recommendations?

I love EH 6CA7 tubes. The JJ's don't seem to last as long, or at least not in my experience. Lately, I have really liked TAD's Redbase series of tubes. I have a pair of their 6V6s in one amp, and some 6L6s in another. Just great sounding tubes to my ears. I tend to stay away from most JJs. I've had more red plating with their tubes than any other brand. Of course YMMV.

i ran EH 6ca7s for an eico stereo hifi amp and id happily use them in any guitar amp. something like a mullard el34 sounded tooooo gushy to me- and while im sure somebodyd say 'those sound solid state'.. i dunno if id agree. i just loved the grip they had and clarity. i run a single one in my reeves 10 watter and theyre still great tubes.

that amp's not getting anything from driving the power section, few high gainers do, don't worry about the headroom. 6CA7 is worth trying vs EL34. I did that in a mesa royal atlantic and really liked it, extended the bass vs. el34s and less presence than 6L6 though that amp never sounded good w/6L6s

I don't think you're going to head a ton of difference, personally. I've heard you can put KT88s in the EL34. I'd do that if you want something different

Forgot about the post, after doing a little more research I think im going to try a KT77 quad instead.
