Popped into GC yesterday. I am unnaturally drawn to weird metal guitars.

This will totally expose me as the terrible person I am, but I kicked the other guitarist out of my prior band because he showed up with one of those Dean monstrosities. It was their copy of a Les Paul but still with that awful headstock.
If you string it the other way round, it’s a V with a Les Paul-shaped headstock. :rofl

It took me a while to find the name of this one. (I'm not among the PRS annointed LOL.) 509 HSH, right? I remember when they first started running ads for these, being very intrigued. If I were ever to get on board and buy a PRS, it would probably be that one. Love the finish on yours, and the color of the fingerboard. Holy grail material, for sure.
This is the 513, (discontinued), there was a follow up on it which looks the same, maybe thats the 509?
Paul Jackson junior plays one of these (who is hired gun that can be a kameleon).

Love the guitar for recording, somehow it always sounds more “in your face” then other solids I have. Neck is super chunky, bit to much maybe, but I got used to that.

I believe Paul Jackson also has his own signature model, a semi-hollow with f hole. (He may have more than one sig.)

And yet, put a Jem in my hands, and I'm a happy boy. :idk

Considering the context of the one-guitar-to-rule-them-all thing, it's pretty hard to beat a JEM/RG with the HSH config, but the aesthetics certainly don't lend themselves to all band situations. I always felt a little out of place playing in a metal band with all this occult/satanic imagery and with a white and gold guitar with a pretty inlay on the fingerboard.

I only wish the Jem had a coil split for the neck position pickup. I'm always looking for a credible neck position Strat tone. Whether a coil split would work to that effect on the pickup in question... I have no idea. But I rarely go looking for neck position humbucker...

...unless that neck pos. humbucker is massively attenuated, and basically a fake channel switch to a clean tone. I've actually been thinking about adding a potentiometer to trim the neck position pickup on my Jem Jr, leaving the stock pot as a master volume. (The sort of thing you'd never do to a real Jem, but why not make a Jr a test bed?) I'm only just now, well into my 50's , beginning to appreciate the utility of independent neck & bridge volumes and the trusty pickup selector switch. With the amp tweaked properly, this can get you through almost anything. Who knew?! Besides every Les Paul player since the 1960's LOL. :facepalm

I've always held that if you want something to be "heavy", you need some kind of baseline for contrast. Like all those quiet verse/ loud chorus songs. Like Heaven & Hell. Like this:

I agree with ya on the lack of a split neck humbucker. I have zero interest in hearing the Evolution split due to the mids that pickup has, but I bet the PAF Pros sound fantastic split! I’m pretty sure I’m going to end up putting those in it sooner than later. The 2/4 positions do the quack tones well enough.

And funnily, since I need a Floyd for some solos in my band, the JEM and my Solar Explorer are the two guitars I’m using for that band until I grab a Solar w/ a Floyd, so I got that balance now! This band isn’t even close to being as heavy as the one I was in in the 00’s, but the JEM is still too pretty to be on it’s own.

Jem handle is killer. The fretboard inlay is absolutely the dealbreaker for me on those.
I love the inlay, especially in the mother of pearl. (Or in the case of my Jr, shameless plastic, aka "tree-fiddy o' life" LOL.) It probably helps to have been "coming of age" in the late '80s, when Ibanez was pimping the early Floral Jems with the bright green inlay; taking that as "canon"; and then seeing the transition to the more elegant MoP. Same for the hot pink/ green/ magenta pyramids vs. the MoP pyramids on the UV7P. It's all got context, like trapezoids on a Les Paul or dots on a 335.

I'll go back to my overpriced weird looking MIK should be $400 turd that I started the thread with now :bag:rofl
Oh, sorry, I forgot what we were talking about. :D Just out of curiosity, what was GC asking for this guitar that should have been $400?

No sidetrack shaming here! They were asking $799. The new listing for these was $699. The Rusty Grey that I think they are dumbly thinking it is (without obviously looking at) is $1089.

OK, yeah. Someone needs to clue them in. They might even come to their senses. (Probably not.)

P.S. Were there any other upgrades on the Rusty Grey, or was Schecter really looking for an extra $400 for less paint and a treadplate pickguard (that would probably double as a boat anchor)?

I don't think so? It's Indonesian made vs. Korean, for whatever that is or isn't worth?
