On your way to the pointy cornerThey did have a D'Angelico there we might have crossed paths on![]()
Ah I've been EMG jonesing here lately. Everything has some Fishman thing in it these days so I kinda like seeing an EMG now and then![]()
Good price! This reminds me, I’ve been meaning to list an 81/85 set w/ the pots/quick connect cables here. I need to double check that everything is there first, but I was going to list them for $100 just to get rid of them. Something to keep in mind!
Cheap guitars FTW! Don't knock it, man. I was sitting at a shop playing that $2600 (used) Guthrie Govan the other night, when a little voice in my head said, "I'd rather be playing my tree-fiddy Jem Jr right now." Sometimes taking a leap (walking away, that is) isn't such a bad idea.![]()

Different strokes. The chunky neck was probably my single biggest issue with the guitar. (Well, that and the price. This one was the more expensive "carmelized" version, but with a couple of dings and marked down about a grand.) I loved the overall feel and balance of the instrument, but as you say, almost any DK24 would deliver the same. (I'm bearing that in mind, actually...I was stoked to play a Govan, too, and then I played it.
I did like the chunkier more vintagey neck profile. But outside of that I could
not feel, see, or hear the $2500 difference between it and my bottom-feeding
Charvels.

Everything else that had piqued my curiosity was kind of a wash at best. I didn't think the single coil simulation sounded all that convincing. (Does it ever? The Bogner Uber Ultra Mega Extreme they sat me down at might not have helped in this regard LOL.) The Tremol-No had been set to dive-only, which for my purposes made it impossible to judge the efficacy of the bridge. Especially after it popped out of dive-only into a "float, but not without putting up a fight" mode, throwing the tuning and setup completely out of whack. (This one is partly on me for not having previous familiarity with the Tremol-No.)
The whole "absolutely versatile" thing started to seem like the wrong angle of attack vs. just buying two good, purpose-built guitars for the same amount of money. And this particular guitar would have needed a full setup before I could even make a judgement, so I had to pass. (Store in question has a 48-hour, store credit only return policy, which is... sobering.)
Let's say... seldom.I also really like specificity these days, and am less into the "One Guitar To Rule Them All" vibe.
Not sure that tact ever ends well.![]()
And yet, put a Jem in my hands, and I'm a happy boy.
Let's say... seldom.
I was obsessed with the ideal of "one absurdly versatile guitar that can sound like any guitar ever in any tuning and also a violin and a piano and a whale pod as needed",
Too much.Variax much?![]()
I settled for this one as the “do it all close enough”, Offcourse without any synth/acoustic stuff.Let's say... seldom.
I was obsessed with the ideal of "one absurdly versatile guitar that can sound like any guitar ever in any tuning and also a violin and a piano and a whale pod as needed", and with tiny amplification that could do anything (except sound good, as it mostly turned out) for DECADES of this short, fleeting life. One rabbit hole after another. Just one of oh so many reasons I'm not Guthrie Govan LOL.
It took me a while to find the name of this one. (I'm not among the PRS annointed LOL.) 509 HSH, right? I remember when they first started running ads for these, being very intrigued. If I were ever to get on board and buy a PRS, it would probably be that one. Love the finish on yours, and the color of the fingerboard. Holy grail material, for sure.I settled for this one as the “do it all close enough”, Offcourse without any synth/acoustic stuff.
But it does do both single and HB well, 25’, so right in the middle of fender/gibson.
Too much.
It's been a love/hate relationship over many years. So many rabbit holes - including the whole "transplant" thing. It's amazing I ever played any music at all.

I actually prefer that Schecter headstock to the horrendous one on Dean V's. Dean make great V's but that headstock design kills it for me.As far as Vs go that’s actually one of the nicer examples out there, and Schecter builds really high quality guitars.
Did they have the Giacamo Turra signature model? They did have a D'Angelico there we might have crossed paths on![]()
This will totally expose me as the terrible person I am, but I kicked the other guitarist out of my prior band because he showed up with one of those Dean monstrosities. It was their copy of a Les Paul but still with that awful headstock.I actually prefer that Schecter headstock to the horrendous one on Dean V's.
