Peavey 5150, the OG, the GOAT

Not OG… but intriguing.

EDIT: $1700 price tag is insane!!

Super weird release.
The god tier version of this will hopefully be any modeller running the wampler pedal head into a cab

Turn up that mids knob!
Mids are the enemy!

I can see how he wouldn't hear that it wasn't tube, but did he not pick it up or look at the back of it? I would think you would have to be a complete newb to not notice.
I legitimately thought while watching the video, “I don’t think he realizes it doesn’t have tubes…”

He did lift it too and was surprised how light it was.

But it did sound good, I think the price is the issue. It's half a Katana or een 1/3 for the price of a full tube 5153 combo....no thanks.

I have no use for the Tonemaster line either but they have been pretty popular with a decent sized group of players who want a light weight low maintenance simple combo amp that sounds good. They sell well even though a modeler and an FR-12 would make more sense to almost everyone on this forum.

As for the price, to some people it is more desirable than a tube amp and they are willing to pay it. I am not sure there will be as much interest for this one from the metal crowd who are more used to heads, but there are a whole lot of country guys and other traditional BF Fender combo players with the Deluxe and Twin versions. I don't see myself ever being interested at any price, but I kinda get it, and I can't fault Fender for making something that is selling well for them.

If it sells well good for them. Personally I dislike the price and I hate them putting 6L6 in the name. They maybe should’ve called it “v6L6” instead. Or better yet, since it’s digital, leave the tube name out completely and give it a voicing switch to go between 6L6, EL34, and Stealth. That would’ve been pretty cool.

I would think they’ll release a head version sooner rather than later regardless and while I do like EVH amps (a lot) I’d have an awfully hard time justifying that over a used 5153 50w 6L6. The tube version is a great amp and can be had for under $1K. I’d say the 6L6 V2 really doesn’t have any significant downsides.

The real question is when they release the EL34 version of this thing, if they’ll add a C134 mod switch 😂

The fact that there are versions of the tube amp known as 6l6 and el34 put them in a bind. Don't use those names and people will be confused about what it is a copy of. Use them and people think it has tubes. It's a no win.

The solution would have been to allow the owner to choose which one to run on the hardware, but that gets you away from the Tonemaster concept of keeping it super simple to use just like a combo amp.
