Agreed to buy a used Origin Effects RevivalDRIVE Hot Rod Custom tonight. Never tried one. But my experience with Origin so far has been great (Cali76 and RevivalTREM). So I'm positive.

Any first hand experiences?

No experience with the Hot Rod Custom, but I love my Revival Drive Compact. I'm also a fan of Origin Effects, and have a Cali76 Stacked, DCX Boost, Halcyon Green, and Magma57 on my board as well.

I'm looking forward to reading your impressions of the Hot Rod.

Just got the Cali76 stacked... What an amazing pedal. Just wow...

Best overdrive on the planet…love it.
Not super intuitive to dial in…read the manual twice ;)
The ghosting is really something special.

I mainly used it as a preamp straight into a poweramp.

Atm I’m 100% digital in the drive department but my rev drive ain’t going nowhere cause:
A/ I run a capture of it and I want it here to capture for any future captures/platform
B/ I’ll probably go back and forth analog / digital anyway.

It's on my bucket list of pedals to try. I don't need it but it seems almost perfect for what I'd like. Looking forward to your thoughts!

Thoughts so far:

This is an incredible pedal - but not necessarily simple plug and play! I will have to experiment more and get more experience with it in various configurations. A lot of possibilities for sure!

So far I've struggled a bit when running directly from the pedal to a cab IR (still investigating this possibility though - so I'd put this in the user error column so far). But then I really enjoyed running it into the Tone King Imperial preamp pedal, as part of me starting to put together a small pedalboard (PT Metro 20) with the Tone King preamp pedal as the centrepiece. Still a work in progress, but based on a short test run with headphones this is very promising!

After having a really good time exploring my new Tone King pedal, I caught myself focusing more on how much I enjoyed the RevivalDrive running into it. Some pedals on this new (smaller) board were taken from my larger board, so if the new small(er) board ends up this way I will have to revisit that one as well. I now have an Origin Effects RevivalDrive Compact (not hot rod) on its way to me to be put on that board. Compared to what you see on the linked larger board, I also have an Origin Effects Halcyon Green I'll add when putting that board back together.
