Orange rockerverb variations?

I feel like you're already fucked, aren't you? :knit

Had a few Orange amps in the past.... including the Rockerverb 50 MKII that I ran
6550s in. That amp was a Bull in a China Shop for me, though. I never totally jived
with it.

Ended up trading it for an AD30, which I dug a lot more. The Rockerverb just wanted
to roar. Where I can get a Marshall or Mesa to whisper the Rockerverb was like "Fuck
that shit!"

The problem with Oranges is if you are going for the modern higher gain iterations; the Super Crushes do it so good that it's tough justification imo. TBF; I have played a bunch of the Crushes vs. the 2 rando Rockerverbs at GC that both had weird issues. I still don't think I could pull that trigger on the usual going prices I see? Dual Dark has always been tempting for dumb "everything else I own is black but this is usually orange and I somehow want the black all of a sudden" reasons :wat:facepalm:rofl

You watched the Kohle Audio Kult video didn’t you? 😂

Is that the one on the Dual Baby? I'm really intrigued by that amp.

I was surprised to see how he dialed in the tone, no idea if the Rocker 15 is the same general tone stack or not but I'll have to mess with mine more.

Haha not effed yet, just considering some possible trade scenarios

Man I don't like the crush stuff at all so if they're similar thats a turn off lol

I wish they still made the Thunderverb 50, that was a killer amp

I've never tried the Rockerverbs, but have always been tempted. I did own the Rocker 30, totally different amp, and loved it, but sub-50W amps and me just don't jive in a loud rock band setting and I sold it.

One thing that keeps me away from Orange - other than very high new prices in Canada for what you get? + limited used options - is that the cabs, as cool as they are, are super heavy/big/awkward and don't have any wheels. And I cannot abide mismatched heads and cabs from different brands, silly as that is. So the cabs being a no-go has blocked off the entire brand for me... :rofl :bonk (Also what makes Mesa super appealing, is just how great, varied, and wheeled, their cabs are :love.)

Would love to see what you think of the Orange though, @spawnofthesith !

Yeah Kristian compared the Dual Baby with his Mk II Rockerverb.

I wanted one because I prefer the Dark Terror to the Rocker 15 - then they stopped making them.

The Orange amp lineup does seem unnecessarily bloated and murky. At least from a distance as someone who hasn’t used them extensively. I can’t tell the difference between them from a marketing standpoint and I always feel like there’s a ton of overlap between the various series.

I like the tones though.

I've never used an orange amp before. I did have a great orange 2x12 for a long time though.

I traded a Rockerverb 50MKII Head for an AD30 Head and a 2 x 12. That was a killer Cab
and Head combo. I preferred the Orange over a Rectifier 2 x 12. I still do. Them Orange
Cabs are no joke. :chef

Yup, with some Frying Pan sizzle on top.

The AD30 is an outlier, and why I love it so much. If you ever get a chance check one out.
People sleep on them, because they don't Doom and Gloom like the big boys. Which is
a total bonus for me. I am guessing Jimmy Page agreed when they did the O2 Show.

The last amp Jimmy used live with Zeppelin. :banana

Ok, off my list of GAS... I buy Orange for the Doom and Gloom - and add Black Arts Toneworks pedals designed with guys like Schiedt from YOB and Matt Pike. I wish I'd picked up Jim Root and Brent Hinds Terrors when they made them.

I can only speak to my Mark III. It’s kind of closer to a hot rodded Marshall but it’s more mid-low mid centered. Still has a good barbut not quite the upper mid cut. Can be picky with boosting if that’s your thing. Mine generally likes my SD-1, Super Phat Mod and really likes the Bion Boost/Naga Viper/Treble Booster. Clean is kind of a Fender meets Vox type thing. I love it. Different than my Marshall style amps but still familiar.
