When I look back at my life playing music EVERYTHING I have learned I learned from
other people.

No man or woman is an island, as they say.

Still one of my favourite things about playing music----the conversation and the community.
Friends pushing friends. Bandmates helping bandmates. Musicians sharing with other musicians.

Until you want to murder one another!!!

When he talked about playing with people who knew some stuff that I don't know, it reminded me of something my father told me- If you wanna get better at something, play with people who are better than you are.

everything we have learned we borrowed, stole, or copied, from someone else.

Yeah, just watched this with the wife about an hour ago. Cool interview and felt connected with everything Richie was saying. It did make me think about playing in a band again. There is a lot that I miss about the interaction with other musicians, those moments of groove and improv are what I miss the most. Like he said, "improv is everything".
