Well, I bought another classic rack synth. The E-MU Proteus 2000 has been on my list for a while now. This gorgeous synth was used in early 2000's video games (and probably a bunch of other media, but who cares). Metroid Prime is the main reason for my fascination with this rompler.

I got this for a very reasonable price. The moment I took it out of the box, I opened it up thinking that it would be cool if it had an expansion rom inside.

I found THREE roms in addition to the standard Composer rom! It has the B3 (hammond sounds), Protozoa (Proteus 1,2 and 3 sounds) and Vintage collection (mellotrons, old synths etc)!

The seller probably had no idea what he had!

This has crazy specs compared to the Roland JV-1080:

32(!)-Part Multimbrality
32MB Sample memory
512 User presets
1024 Factory presets (plus expansions)

That's a lot of progress in five years!
