I've been gushing for a little while tonight! I didn't think it'd be here for a few more days but got the notice in my email as I was taking the pup for a walk. This thing is outstanding!! I've never played a real Tube Driver, I'm not sure I'll ever feel the need to now. From what I gather, there's more range in these than an actual Tube Driver and there's plenty of Gilmour tones found just by turning the knobs a bit. The bottom end is pretty crazy, not just the amount of it, but there's a much bigger AITR thing going on with it.

The preset I used this with reminded me a bit of Gilmour's tone on the new album, specifically this solo-

And the TD-Y going into a clean HiWatt in the AxeFX-

I'll be diggin' on this thing for a while to come. It's responsible for a ton of my favorite Gilmour tones and I wanna find all of em!

Congrats! I love my Buffalo FX TDX and I'm glad to hear this Aussie take is great too.

And I just realise they make a clone of a Moog Lowpass Filter. Time to order asap...

Don't resist!!!!! Give into it!!! They're both worth it!

The TD-Y will definitely be a mainstay in any non-metal rig I put together, the more I play with it and hear what it can do the more I love it. I might be saying the same for the Patriarch as I get more into the weeds with stacking drives on a clean platform.

My no.1 amp is a Reeves Custom 50(Hiwatt DR504 circuit)...and those two pedals will be soooo nice, along with my Boonar and El Cap.... Dang!

Man, you're going to be in Gilmour heaven!!!!

I really need to play a Hiwatt/Reeves/clone, it's one of the few brands I've never had the chance to. I see the Reeves PT 12's aren't going for crazy prices, might be cool to grab one of those before taking the plunge into something bigger/more costly.

I just recorded a cover of the "Poles Apart" solo about as good as I'll ever get it, I'll post it up in a bit.

New to the TD-Y party, and wondering if anyone can offer some tips to speed up the learning curve. No Hiwatt around here, so I'm trying to conjure Gilmour tones with a blackface type amp (Allen Accomplice 1x10) and my Strat (slight overwind - 6k/6k/8k). I don't get along with fuzz, so I thought the TD-Y would be worth a shot given the demos (great work @DrewJD82 and others). I got it a few days ago, devoured the Tim Tam, and spent about 10 minutes with the pedal. Just enough to get lost in options with all the eq and switch choices.

Any tips on dialing in smooth sustainy lead tones with the TD-Y into a blackface amp? Not just TD-Y settings, but also the chain: is a compressor essential, and does it go before or after? Is drive stacking essential, and if so what and where? Etc. All tips appreciated.

Cheers,
Jim

Welcome, brother! And congrats!!

If you’re going for the Gilmour stuff, compression is a must! That guy isn’t running any of his Tube Drivers without compressors, before and after in some cases. While Gilmour relies on clean headroom to stack dirt pedals on, I’m pretty sure I used a Bassman that was breaking up a bit when I did that “Poles Apart” solo as I know he was using Bassman’s and Champs in the studio for that album, so YMMV when it comes to the starting base tone.

I can’t say it’s the most ‘fun’ pedal to play with by itself, but when combined with compressors or other amp/pedal distortion you start finding where it’s benefits really are.
