I know there's already Orv's "Noise Floor" thread, but I wanted to make one about dedicated gate pedals, mainly because I'm currently shopping for one.
I thought my rig was "complete", and now I've successfully managed to find another loophole to keep buying pedals. Congrats to me, eh?
The gates that I've narrowed it down to:
- Ibanez PT Gate (probably top contender)
- Joyo Legal Done (Revv G8 clone, looks terrible though)
- TC Sentry (nice but digital and I'd rather avoid Music Tribe)
- Boss NS-1X (nice but digital, a tad above my idea of a budget)
ISP stuff isn't really an option due to their steep pricing.
The good old Boss NS-2 is probably legit but seems outdated in some aspects.
Fortin: not sure, tbh
I'm certain that I want one with loop/"key" in/out jacks that can do 4CM stuff, so a simple gate that doesn't have those is not for me.
I'd want to stay under 150€, ideally somewhere around 100€, which should be doable.
There's no interesting Black Friday deals on gates yet from EU retailers, tho. Maybe during the next few days, I'm not in a rush (but GAS, y'know).
Any good/bad experiences you'd like to share?
Is there even a big difference between analog and digital signal paths in a noise gate? I've read the Sentry introduces a few ms of latency - probably not noticeable, I'd guess.
What are your favorite and somewhat affordable gates?
