No more Presonus: Fender Studio Pro

I am digging it here are a few screen shots. Looks like I am going to be busy for a bit. There is a ton of new stuff in here.

I upgraded from Studio1 so I could continue to test out any plugins that I help out with such as NAM and my Bratwurst Fuzz plugin etc, and all seems well so far. Also just because it seems cool you get a nice bundle of extra things included, not least are the new amps.

So, I had a little play around with Mustang plugin and I think that it's pretty damn cool.
Nice and tweakable, great tones, good presets, nice to see the ''real'' amp graphics etc.

I have some GUI nitpicks for Mustang, but they aren't things that are too bad... preset names getting truncated, amp control panels getting a second page when there are more than the basic set, etc... but it's fine really.

Overall I think they've done pretty good, and the half priced upgrade from studio1 v6 was deffo appreciated!

Wait, so there is no more Presonus?
That I'm not sure of, but if so it kind of sucks if they dissolve the branding. PreSonus have/had lovers and haters, but the brand always managed to stay relevant for many, many years (obviously, if Fender bought them). I still have old preamp hardware of theirs from 2005 and it works great when needed. Studio One is a killer DAW too.

What are these like? Comes with perpetual studio one pro licence for£99.

I have a focusrite Scarlett 3rd gen 2i2 currently but the software with the presonus is tempting as I'm using sonar by cakewalk/bandlab at the moment

I recommend Julian Krause for audio interface reviews, he's excellent and very thorough.

also, a quick summary time-stamped here: tldr "good, not great":

Interesting that gen4 Scarlett took a headphone hit. Reckon I'll stick with my 3rd gen and carry on with bandlab/cakewalk as is. Good videos, appreciate the links.

I was planning on upgrading my MacMini this summer (to M5 if rumours are finally true, or else M4) and that would force me to upgrade my Studio One 5. Guess I have a few months to see what people think of it before considering moving to Logic.

While I get that the move makes sense for Fender and Presonus, I have a hard time believing that Fender, as the huge company it is, won't start doing small steps that pisses off Studio One users over the next few years.

I recommend watching the individual reviews where he goes into detail about the headphone stuff.

The Scarlett 3rd gen seems to have very low output levels to high impedance headphones compared to even my 2nd gen model.
By comparison the 4th gen does well with high impedance headphones with plenty of output, but might not perform its best with very low impedance headphones.

That's my biggest worry. Time will tell though. But that can be an issue with general upgrades too. Some companies just change things for the sake of change. I've used Adobe products for 17 years and without fail they'll always change an operation you got used to and really liked. Stuff no one asked for lol. But you make adjustments because you have to, or... you switch over to another platform which has its own set of challenges and processes.

The great thing about Studio One, every upgrade that's come a long has been a welcome upgrade to me. A lot of smart features that have continually pushed it to a high level. I've been using version 7 (been using studio one for about 16 yrs or so) and it's just a great platform so far. I just hope the core team from PreSonus is with Fender for a long while. It would be a shame for Fender to downgrade a lot of the parts of Studio One that made it great to begin with. I'm sure they'll push forward the whole modeling plugin, guitar based stuff, which is cool. That is something I've wanted for a while in Studio One. Hopefully others parts don't get sacrificed a long the way though.

To be fair, I watched a YouTube video about the new features and they're pretty neat. I might upgrade to v8 this summer and see how it goes. Worst case scenario, I can switch to Logic. But I'd rather stay on a multiplatform DAW so I can work with anyone in my band.

Fwiw, I loaded up Studio Pro 8 on my Mac, no issues so far. I've dabbled with the Mustang native plugin and it's pretty cool so far. I can see using this for tracks. I was getting great tones from a cranked Twin reverb and Super Sonic so that was fun. A lot of good effects too. Like most plugins, the presets leave a lot to be desired but I can see having no issue dialing in some useful tones.

I like it so far, and it has a bit of that quirky coolness factor going on that makes coming up with ideas pretty easy.
