Bought this badboy a couple weeks ago and am having a blast with it. 2000km in two weeks, so far. :love

Got back into bikes last summer and went through a few to find what I'm looking for (Honda SCL500, Husqvarna Svart 401, Moto Guzzi V7). Was unfamiliar with the "sport tourer" category until recently and really like them. Started by looking at a used Yamaha FJR and ended up with this 2024 Suzuki, which was a great deal being new but last year's model. Built around a detuned "Gixxer" K5 1000cc engine. Pretty chill in the low revs and great around the city, but can be a screaming rocket in the upper range, when the mood hits.

Love that it's fast and nimble but can also do long hauls + has a more upright seating position. Also enjoying the windscreen + fairing, as my previous bikes have been "naked" with a lot of wind, etc. Came with hard side cases that are integrated, with no extra frame/rack needed, and are super quick to take on/off, kind of has two personalities with/without them (sporty urban vs solid tourer). Hoping to do a trip up north and/or east with it in the next few weeks.

Any other TGFers riding this summer? :beer

Sweet bike!! I had a Ninja 600R back in college. It cost me a few girlfriends...

Girlfriend, "who was that bitch on the back of your bike???"

Me, "I dont know what you are talking about, I was in class. Can we talk about this after I take a shower?" :rofl :rofl :rofl

Thanks! I'd love to try a Ninja. Funny enough, I've never ridden a regular sport bike, was kind of afraid of them + the crouched forward position put me off. This is basically Suzuki's version of the Ninja 1000SX, I believe.

Lovely that. I'm currently on a Honda CBF1000A. Similar type of bike with full luggage, quick enough but comfortable for long mileage.

Nice! I love Hondas, had the new Scrambler 500 last summer, was my ease-back-into-it after 25 years bike. The CBF1000A looks awesome! They have a new sport tourer too, the NX1000.

Jeebus you have completely lost your mind, haven't you?? :puppet

:rofl

That's a LOT of bike for any guy, or gal.

Pretty sure I am done after my encounter with a 4 legged friend that ended badly for them. I just
don't have the stomach to test Fate. I feel like I got my One Get Out Of Jail Free Card.

Stay upright my friend! :beer

Yeah, it's surprisingly manageable, they did a good job of keeping it pretty civilized up to about 5k revs. Also has three riding modes, advanced-basic-rain, which modify the throttle response. I've kept it in the middle one for the first 1500km, until I got completely used to how the bike feels, etc. Honestly, riding in that B mode and keeping it under 5k revs, it wasn't too far from my 850cc Guzzi. However, I recently switched to A mode, and I'd say there's no turning back, haha. Very quick and fun machine. But yes, I will be careful and keep my wits about me. :beer

That's too bad about the Harley crash last year, huge bummer and I remember your epic Harley thread. Totally get that. :(

Happy for ya, TS! That is a lovely bike. :chef

My Harley Buds bust my balls religiously. They think I am lucky. And I am, which
is why I don't want to test it again.

I have almost hit several Deer while driving a Car since, and it just reaffirms my
decision to walk away. It does suck, though. It is something I love and enjoy
very much (rode motorcycles since I could ride a bicycle pretty much). Just so
many variables that I can't control, and which could impact me and those I love
and care about. I need to stick around for my Family for a bit more, so it is more
Kayaking and Mountain Biking this Summer.

Maybe some day I'll snag something like a Kawasaki KLR and do the Camping/Off
Road thing. Or grow a pair and get another Harley. :grin:guiness

Enjoy, TS! :cheers

Congrats, looks wicked!
Funny you mentioned the Moto Guzzi V7 - that's probably my dream bike (that's actually attainable.)
Stay safe! :beer

Thanks! :beer

Yes, I loved the Guzzi, I really did. If I could have both, I would, for sure. Extremely comfy bike, the seat is like a well-worked-in couch, haha, and I love the looks of it. Also an amazing bop-around-town bike, very easy to manoeuvre in tight spaces and plenty of pep on city streets. But the "must have more power" form of motorbike GAS is a thing, plus I was nervous about taking it on a long trip and having a problem, was craving that bulletproof Asian-bike feeling of security and ease of getting parts if needed. I've heard of people having issues around the 8-10k mark and then having to wait months for specific parts.

Here's the Guzzi, 2023 V7 Special Edition:

Nice bike!

My first bike was a Suzuki GS500, then a Honda CB1 that I crashed (loved that bike!), and finally a Suzuki SV650. I don't ride anymore, as I also felt I was pushing my luck. Traded up to a Miata ;) which I consider a 4 wheeled motorcycle because you have to drive as if no one can see you.

love it- thats a great bike! hot damn another sport tourer- right on shout if youre in maryland!
Eastern Shore here. You guys got me thinking I need to get my 97 Kawasaki Concours back on the road. It's ancient compared to these rides, but still a lot of fun, since it's basically a 900 Ninja sport tourer, bored out to 1000cc, but with slightly smaller carbs for less top end speed, but more torque and mid-range power.

Me and the ex used to take long weekends on it to the Blue Ridge Parkway. I do miss those trips!

oh nice! hell yeah come on out- im in hagerstown and we could always pull a rip down 81 to winchester and do blue ridge pkwy, or even just stay relatively local to michaux and PA, or whatevs! i dunno anybody who rides anything but squid machines or harleys 😄

i rode with two local cats with concourses! nice machines and both really loved theirs! theres a buncha BMW ADV guys around here as well- but they tend to be a different crowd, and sport touring is mebbe an old/renewed niche... so hard to find that gang yet!

I had a 900 Ninja before the Concours, but it wasn't practical for trips. And the wife LOVED riding! And I wasn't ready for a HD, so when Kawasaki introduced the Concours in 86, I thought it was the PERFECT bike. But like you said, it's mostly either sport bikes, or cruisers of some type.

I like twisty roads, and a bike that can handle them, but I also like being able to pack stuff for a trip right on the bike. So I sold the Ninja and bought it new in 97.

But then I got the Harley itch, and well, that's another story. Don't have the Harley any more, but I kept the Concours.
