The guitar I acquired is a James Tyler Japan Studio Elite HD-P.

Major mod is the addition of a preamp on the back, which can be turned on and off with the button on the front, which was originally used for a coil tap.

Pickups are a Super in the bridge, a Hot Laura in the middle and a Studebaker in the neck.

I recorded a clip with the guitar, here it is:

That fact that the control cavity is recessed but the tremolo isn't is giving me teh twitches

Oh, that’s not the tremolo, that’s a midboost preamp. If you noticed, it’s connected to the control cavity, not the trem cavity. The tremolo is indeed recessed.

I got to tour the Tyler factory recently having visited the Deviser factory where the Japanese versions are made in 2019. The Japanese versions are every bit as impressive as the US guitars IMO.

That's a mighty fine looking example!

This guitar is superlative, amazing to play. Today I just messed around with cleans for the longest time on my Sig:X. Such beautiful chime and sparkle.

I later hooked up my Engl Savage and ran it using the 4CM method into my QC. That was also a lot of fun, the note definition with the Super in the bridge is quite different from what I'm used to.

The preamp that was modded into it is another whole lot of fun. I haven't really worked out how to incorporate it into my playing, just seems easier and a more fluid motion to me to kick on a tube screamer. But it's pretty interesting to dial in a lower gain tone and then hit the button to add some more saturation.
