Got me a new guitar yesterday. A Les Paul Special with mini humbuckers. I ordered it right when I heard bout the model back in July. Had to special order it as I live in Canada and it is one of the exclusive to Gibson.com models. I ordered 2 and chose the one I liked better. QC’d Oct 10th. So very recently built.
What a great guitar. Big fat neck. Fit and finish is top notch. Any mini buckers I have played in the past have tended to be super bright and somewhat, or largely microphonic. These pickups are great. I have never gotten along with a humbucker in the neck, or a P90. I generally only like a Strat style single coil which isn’t really a thing on a Les Paul. These pickups are giving me exactly what I have been looking for. A nice bright and clean tone in the neck, and great edge and grind in the bridge when gain is applied.
They also make a version with a P90 in the bridge and mini backer in the neck. Looks weird, but it’s probably a killer combo.
Anyway. Love this guitar! Check one out if you can.
