new old pickup day!

when i got this guitar it had very obviously squier pickups on plastic one piece bobbins . regardless.. it sounded good- but the bridge measured about 7.3k and just didnt have a great feel or much output . not too bad for a single coil, really- but i spend a lot of time in bridge- so i figured id change it.

my 72 tele had a duncan hot stack in it when i got it that i swapped out with a better broadcaster pickup- so it was sitting on a shelf! time to put it back to use.

NOW... this guitar has some beef. its not quite an HSS... but its more in line with an 11k single, and a hot p90 in my other bridge positions- and the handoff to the other pickups is really good. bunch more spongy bottom end dirty and a lot less hifi fizz on top that just wasnt really dialing out well.

i always liked this pickup even though its not especially telecaster-y with a 250k pot- but since im not really a chicken picker.. id settle for a flexible guitar!

That looks great. I see some upgraded compensated saddles on yours.

I had to hold back from buying one myself. They were being discounted on MF/GC for $300 a few weeks back.

 i threw some wilkinson tuners and a bridge on it from go knowing itd be $50 well spent! all my other teles have compensated brass saddles so figured why change a good thing that works!

i never had a strat-ish guitar of my own before! im loving this thing- especially now with some chonky rokk tones!

Single Coil Slug :satan :roflLooks like it sounds scary!

haha- definitely LOOKS scary, but really not super hot or anything worse than a broadcaster. it measures something crazy like 21k- but it doesnt sound like an invader. pretty mild mannered and mellow for its mod looks.

The rail pickup makes the guitar look even classier. I really like how the whole guitar looks with your tweaks.

thanks- its definitely not a bad package all told for $300 and that it looks good don't hurt! still shocked how good a guitar this is given how not good quite a few much more spendy strats were.

i also think i found out maybe why im not a big fan of strats once i ousted the bridge pickup  it may look cool, but it sure SOUNDS better minus the dc to light single coil. :D

I agree. Those oddball mashups of Tele and Strat and Jazzmaster and whatever they
have laying around are cool as F!
:chef

i dig the '72 wide range esquire! i wanted to like the stratosonic, but the one i played was an utter dog. guess ya miss once in a while!
