Not a Blackstar hater and played one. Not really that impressed. Just typical stuff I'd expect from such ranges. Uninspiring. But other people may feel differently.

It’s a solid solid-state amp with a fantastic speaker. I wouldn’t own a Katana without that speaker. It’s the most important thing in the upgrade to the Artist line IMO. FULL HARD STOP SERIOUS.

I hook it up with mygen2 2-12 katana in stereo and use the gen3 artist as the main amp and the gen2 is the satellite

I haven't played the artist. Had the boss katana 1x12 MKII 100 watt combo for two years or so. Didn't change the speaker and the amp didn't get much use.

If it were me, I’d sell the gen 2 2x12 and use the cash to get a matching gen3 artist. If I didn’t have too many amps and the Katana Artist was my primary, I’d do that in a heartbeat. But that’s just me. A particular gear hound.

I got that 2-12 gen 2 for 199$ it works well in stereo using the artist as the controller

I think how you plan to use the amp is critical to choosing one of these.
In my experience the Katana seems to come to life at a higher (gig) volumes while the Catalyst and Blackstar are more easily satisfying at bedroom levels.
Also, I haven’t heard complaints about Katanas physically falling apart the way I’ve experienced first hand with the Catalyst and Blackstar. I did see that the new Catalysts have screwed in a piece that was previously only glued on, so that’s a good sign that they’re addressing ruggedness.

Yep and that's the reason why I decided to sell my Katana 50 after a good 5'ish years of use. Built like a tank and sounded great at rehearsal volumes. I had no issues keeping up with a 4x12 Dual Rec or 100W Orange head - obviously we didn't fully crank the tube monsters..
Once I changed apartments I had to watch my volume quite a bit and it just didn't scratch the itch anymore. I always felt like something was missing from the tone, it sounded somewhat boxy and "small". I wish I had a proper multi-fx unit back then, perhaps some tweaking was all it needed as the available onboard sounds didn't get me where I wanted to be. The new stereo practice amps are much better in that regard, I can fill the room with sound without disturbing my neighbours.
