NDSP Quad Cortex

I don’t think this has ever really been done though - most modellers aren’t doing fully licenced models in the same way. It’s as much up to the companies to want it to happen and to reach those agreements. The landscape has changed a ton in the last 5 years or so too.

I’d personally rather see proper licensing and officially branded products, even if it means HW gets a reduced choice of options. I like that the original amp creators get something out of it.
Agreed. Teaming up with artists for the plugs was a good marketing move, obviously. But it is going to present some royalty payment math difficulties when the company wants to pivot the agreement to include whatever it is on the hardware.

I’d guess for the more recent plugs they’ve baked in hardware porting into their agreements up front. I doubt they’ll ever do another plug that doesn’t have hardware porting built in to the deal.

Which also explains why the handful that are up in the air are generally the older ones. Those companies probably want new money (can’t blame them) and Neural probably argues that porting leads to an increase of new purchases of the plug from HW owners. If the old plug sales have dried up considerably over the years (to be expected) then you'd be well served to create leverage with Neural for a new deal ($$$) to port them.

If I was Neural I’d just walk away from anyone that they can’t reasonably come to an agreement with. The plugs are still usable as plugs, and the QC needs to move on. Looks like they’ll be able to add the majority of them, and all new ones will be compatible on day one. Neural needs to move on.

Don't really have a horse in the race, but I like the way Neural proactively handled this (clear communication, discounts to set the non-PCOM ones apart, etc.). Good stuff.

Also agree that the ecosystem seems to be in a good place where the PCOM debacle matters so much less than it used to.

They are definitely learning from past mistakes. That's a good thing!

True , and I think it’s a good look for them
I watched the recent video with Francesco and they have finally flat out admitted they were wrong about PCOM and hey wished they had never promised or committed to it , they way underestimated the time and effort needed

I thought it was a good statement and nice to see them humble and transparent. Admitting basically they f up

Huh. Never saw it and have no desire to. But good for them.

Honestly, I think it behooves most companies to keep a quieter profile. DI is an exception to the rule because he genuinely likes hanging out here and other forums and has so much to say beyond new firmware announcements and marketing feature teases.

If I had to guess, that was likely something ironed out early on if they anticipated plugin support on the hardware, it would be a pretty easy stipulation to include.

Edit: just noticed someone said this above already

How Important is PCOM for QC users ?
For me, it’s the only reason I bought a QC (I waited until they actually started PCOM). With that said, I’m totally fine with this news. I still hope they’ll do Cali, but whatever. I’m pretty happy with the tones in the box at this point. I’d like some stuff like panning in most blocks and things along those lines but all in all I’m happy with the QC and QCM.
