I think for rack shit it’s better to just bake in the power amp when snapping the preamp, otherwise you have the leveling effect you have to deal with with the PA cap (Was it capped hot, not enough etc) that influences how you dial in the preamp and vice versa. Plus you have the flexibility of tweaking exactly to taste. I think I will abandon the split approach.
I think it would cool to have an auto level feature, but I’m just parking my PA at a set level, (which is hitting a solid cap level) and then leaving the cap input gain alone (flat, no boost or cut) in the cap screen. The second you start fucking with leveling in the cap screen it all starts to become a tail chase downstream. I’m going to leave my PA master at the same level for the entire wave of my initial captures.
Which naturally means my kids will come in and start twisting knobs asap.
Anyway, the V2 capture accuracy is kind of great. A/B’ing you can scrutinize some ultra-specifics in certain frequencies ranges, but honestly I dropped some tracks in the DAW and couldn’t really tell if the only differences were the performance of each take or the cap vs amp.
