NDSP Quad Cortex

Snapped four caps of my KSR 100R power amp. Goal is to eventually digitize my rack rig. Snapped all the bastards in V1 before realizing I had to initiate v2 from Cortez Control. :bag

V2’s def have less congestion. Snap more.

If anyone is bored and wants to test them out, might be helpful as a sanity check. (Will need to use with a pre-amp or pre-amp cap) Snapped one be with a higher master, then the rest with a lower MV and with a couple different presence/depth and NFB settings. UN: Whizzinby

So .. guitar into Input 1 of the QC. Setup 3 amps in the preset. Output 3 the final destination. Regular guitar cable from output 3 to the FX return of my Orange Rockerverb or my Mesa Mark V.

Was super quiet.

I tried plugging a dummy cable into the front of the amp and into the send of the amp FX loop as well. Still super quiet.

All of the output gains on the QC were at 0dB, everything should've been unity. QC claiming it was hitting -10dB to -14dB on the output. But what I was hearing was whisper quiet.

Only thing I can think is, I was powering it with the Crux, and it wasn't getting enough juice somewhere along the way. But I only had a few minutes to test it, and gave up in the end.

That was the story of me hoping to use my QC at practice last night.
You figure it out? Slap yourself?

Yeah, the QC is sounding fucking sick through the FX return of my Orange Rockerverb. Totally overkill amp for just a poweramp, but I had to try it. The 12vDC Crux is powering the QC wonderfully.

As it happens, the input gate at 0% actually cleans up a lot of the noise issues, and doesn't choke tails off drastically at all. The preset doesn't even need a main noise-gate.

Quite honestly, I could happily gig with this, with out 1+2 going to FOH, out 3 going to my on-stage amp+cab, and potentially a backup IEM system as well for those gigs where you can't quite hear yourself.

I spent a couple hours this afternoon capturing the ADA MP1 and somewhere between reshooting at different input levels and then starting to dial in settings to cap for different guitars and cab/speaker types (V30/GB) I thought, you know what else is cool?

Just playing the fucking amp.

So today, I spent a couple of hours using Stadium, Axe FX III, and QC into the poweramp return of my Orange Rockerverb.

And honestly, the Axe III and Stadium were really really good. Totally different to using Helix Floor, or Axe2, or even Kemper.

The QC?

Fucking stellar quite honestly. I consistently preferred the 5150III tones I was getting from the QC into the return, over the Axe3 and Stadium.

I'm now considering a Fryette Power Station 100watty-boom-machine.

Hell yeah, I got the LXII for the same reason. 💪

Sounds like we are doing the same shit, integrating w/ amps versus replacing. I’ve spent the last couple days running my rack preamps into the Mini, and it works a treat. Hybrid setups ftw.

Joey Landreth is using the QC mini on his board now. Making some really interesting noises with it too. He said he's using it for his wah but annoyingly they don't do that in the video.

This dude is such a tasteful player. Dig all the tones he pulls. (I wish Mick and Dan would have stopped yapping and let him play more lol) Badass pedalboard setup.

The world has turned, dudes are buying a QC for the effects. :ROFLMAO:

We're going to see Joey play in Belfast next Saturday night. This will be the fourth or fifth time we've seen him play and he's always killer. Can't wait.

Man... having QC next to Stadium, it is so beyond obvious to me how much better and more responsive the Stadium's touchscreen is.
How does this manifest? I remember that sometimes I'd click on something on the QC and it would do nothing, but it happened randomly enough that I could not tell if it was my mistake or the device.

My current setup uses the QCM into the Badlander 25 on one side powering my 2x12. I love the BL as a power amp because the master volume is still active when going straight into the loop. The other side is a pair of FR12s because I only have a single cab these days. Sounds great.

The stadium feels like a phone, the QC more like the credit kiosks where you try to sign your name after purchase 😂

For example, dragging down to open the I/O page. Quite often requires 3 or 4 attempts before it responds. Double-tapping the block icons to bypass them will often need multiple attempts too. The Stadium touchscreen is WAY more responsive in that respect.

But it doesn’t have a Nordic Concert Hall
Always a compromise somewhere
The irony is when I first had the QC I thought the touchscreen was decent not phone quality but decent and quick to navigate of course it was relatively new design now that everyone has one you can see more or the weaknesses
That said the Cortex control is a really nice editor crisp colors and well-laid out
