NDSP Quad Cortex

Is the Mini really improved in terms of noise floor??
In my experience - yes.

When I had the OG QC, I compared the background noise level with my RME interface. When I ran NDSP plugins using my audio interface, the noise level was substantially lower than when I loaded the same plugin blocks into the QC. The difference was significant, and ultimately the reason I sent the QC back. I did the same test with my new QCM and found that there is virtually no difference in the background noise between the QCM and my interface.

I am not honestly sure if it even was the power supply but something more to due w internal board components because the Fractal AM4 has a 2 prong ungrounded supply and it’s quiet
My guess is NDSP figured out it was not the power supply that’s why they abandoned getting a new spec’d one
That's been my POV for years now.

I liked how the QC sounded but sold mine for the noise concerns - and I found the gates were ok but not great in solving the issue. I'm willing to give the QCM a go if it is noticeably better (which seems to be the case).

Oh sick. My Cioks Crux can power the Quad Cortex. Didn't realise that till just now.
I run one of mine off a laptop battery. It runs for 17 hours!

Powered up, no wires. (In this shot, wireless MIDI and audio, too!)

I don't think I've ever annoyed my girlfriend with my practicing before, but today I was trying to learn the solo for Killing in the Name using an expression pedal I've not really used, and a whammy pedal I've never used on the Quad Cortex.

After about half an hour she popped her head in and said, "Will you stop with the wee-woo shit!"

I just burnt away 40minutes of playing on this preset. It took a long time to setup mind you. At least 40 seconds. Fucking hell. Absolute dogshit workflow. Terrible.

And you know what is worse?? I can fucking read EVERYTHING !!!! Absolutely terrible service, would not buy again (and again, and again, and again)

Ugh. It's never as simple as you want.

The QC turns phantom power off at various points. And the Neve DI box requires phantom power in order for the speaker THRU to work - ergo .... if you phantom power the Neve DI box from the QC, and use the THRU connection to connect to a real cab for your load .... then the QC can result in your amp not having a load at various times. Super annoying.

What are those “various points”? This sounds potentially hazardous to your amp.

Cancelling a capture. Finishing a capture. Starting a capture. In various scenarios. I won't detail it all out, but yeah... if you're using a DI that expects phantom power in order to maintain your load connection... erm... don't.

That... sucks.

(I've developed a healthy fear of phantom power after blowing up a couple of things by hot-swapping, or by providing phantom power to devices that didn't want any.)
