Man thats an awesome Rig !!

Congrats! That's a killer setup. Make sure to adjust the parameters in the speaker tab of the amp block to get the best sound. I can provide details if you want.

The Axe-FX III sounds amazing through stereo 4x12 cabs.

I always find comfort looking at other people’s setups knowing I haven’t yet gone too far :ROFLMAO: That’s an amazing setup!!!

I haven’t even looked at the speaker page in the amp block, didn’t think about that. Adding that to this evenings checklist (y) Is there anything specific I should be mindful of?

You'll want to pay attention to the speaker thump, speaker drive, and speaker compression parameters. The output mode should be "FRFR" for use with a tube power amp as per the information in the FAS blocks guide. Turn the speaker drive, compression, and thump to zero.

Played around with this. Def takes out some of the tub to the tone. Need to experiment with it a little more, but thanks, I would have never stumbled over that or thought to tweak it.

@Whizzinby I agree. Adjusting those parameters down makes the amp sounds more dynamic and open when played through real cabs. The only other thing I do special for playing with that setup is to adjust the speaker impedance curve to try and match it to my cabs. The main thing is to get the low resonant frequency close to the real resonant frequency of your cabs. It makes palm mutes feel more punchy and natural when you get that parameter dialed in.

Have you had more loud time with the Fryette? Every time I crank up the III through my monitors; I just pee myself a little. Just so much :chef:chef:chef I can't even really contain how awesome it sounds and feels to play. I can only imagine it is absolutely CRUSHING through that 412. Lordy :satan

Haven’t cranked her up to stadium levels yet.

Have kids they said! Back 2 Back Meet The Teacher nights is awesome, they said? :ROFLMAO:

It’s been awesome so far though. Even at reasonable volumes the wall of sound is great, and interestingly influences how I’m playing. It’s very different than playing with a single 412 where it’s projecting at me from single spot. This washes over you from everywhere. Very immersive. The FAS Modern II chugs straight to the chest. :satan Though I’m still primarily in the phase of hitting an open clean chord and giggling like a little kid as a stereo delay bounces it around in space :ROFLMAO:

Happy Sound Of Music GIF

Had to replace a couple shitty patch cables I was using, then I reconfigured it with the LXII on top because I didn’t like having the LX heat vents literally an 1/8” underneath the Axe output connections. Better ventilation now.

Hoping to get some time over the weekend to crank this dude up to Live at Wembley levels. 🤘

To make sure I’m tracking, I should turn off the Auto-Dyna-Cab Imp. setting, and select my 4x12 Friedman (Which thankfully they have already built in) Other than selecting that I don’t need to mess with any of the other knobs in that section, just dump the Drive, Comp and Thump on the right side to zero.

@Whizzinby Yeah, that looks like a great starting point and it's awesome that you can load the curve for your exact cabs. I wish there was a way to import speaker impedance curves because my cabinets' curve isn't in the firmware.

If the axe has models of preamps on board….do try those.
To me using models of preamps into tube powersections..or captures in my case…seemed to make it much easier to get a sound I’m happy with day to day…so no more “shitthissoundedgoodyesterday”..

There are dedicated preamps, but you can turn off power amp modeling on all the amps in the AxeFc too. I’m finding that I prefer leaving power amp modeling on. Fryette power amps are naturally pretty neutral and on the LXII you can completely disable the presence and depth controls too. (Which I’m doing while using the Axe)

Between this and @Elric occasional Syn5050 thoughts; it seems like a nice cheaper way to get sort of the same thing as the LX.

I’ve never understood how the SYN5050 couldn’t be badass considering Fryette designed it and his power amps have been a rack staple. I think it’s internet forum lore that never died. Oddly enough I went with the LXII because I liked the aesthetics and found a decent price on one new. Though now that I have the LXII I’m thinking about going back down the SYN2 rabbit hole again, and having blacked out rack of death (AxeFx, SYN2, 5050) might have been sick. :ROFLMAO:

How you do find out what that value is though?

I have 2 4x12 Mesa cabs, but with V30's, both the older 240 watt cabinets, and I've seen that question asked over at FAS, but never seen an answer.

I'd like to set that properly for the times I fire up the Mesa Simul 2:90 with those cabs, because to my ears, it's still not quite there.

Hell yeah on that rig, @Whizzinby!

I used a DATS V3 to measure the impedance curves of my actual cabinets. The cabs had very slightly different resonant frequency peak values (less than 4 Hz difference) so I use the average of the two.

Word.

I found what I need to get it done.
So.. to the OP: Let’s go get it!
This is what I’m bringing for the Battle Of Evermore

Yeah, I like it and it compares pretty well to the KSR PA50 I have and the power sections of my heads (my amp switcher setup can route my Synergy modules through any of my power amps or head FX returns). I've come very close to pulling the trigger on an LXII and then have a "win or go home" throw down, although, I'm pretty sure I'd just end up keeping both. :wat

Same. I figure its a lot like the slaved amp setups of yore. No issues with the extra mojo on my end. Generally requires just a little fiddling, but when you find the settings for an amp run into tube power + Cabs it is full on brain stun.

This is what convinced me that the Axe is 'there' for my needs. The first time I got it going right and A/B'd the amps, I was like "WTF do I have all these amps for?" The Axe can swap between the amp's preamp and itself instantly in my config (again w/ any of the amps and the syn thanks to the switcher) and it is just crazy how good it is. Being able to compare two sounds directly with minimal time between hearing them makes a big difference for me; eliminates a lot of stuff that is straight up imaginary.
