I probably shouldn’t have done it, but I grabbed a brand new Mesa 2x12 with V30s for a more convenient gigging cab. Just tried it out through my living room practice setup and I think it will be great for my needs. Easier to get loaded and set up than my 4x12s and just wide enough for any of the heads I might use. Picture is my practice setup with the Crab Dragon, but will be using it with either my JP2C or my Synergy 50 for gigs.

So far I have less than an hour in and most of that has been playing clean chords at moderately loud volumes to get the speaker moving. Anyone have any other good suggestions for break-in?

I have that cab with different Tolex and that JP2C will fit with room, you need a Mark V, it fits exactly perfectly :)

I have never done it but thought about hooking up the Fractal or Helix plugged into my computer and playing some Black Eyed Peas fake bass songs for break in.

I know the JP2C will have extra room, but I use the MIDI and both graphics. I would like to try a Mk VII someday, but probably won’t be able to.

Good idea on pumping bass heavy music through it. I think I may play my bass through it clean and moderately loud to get the speakers flexing a bit.

That's pretty much what Celestion recommends. Just play big, bassy chords through it. I don't think there's any need to do more than that, just keep playing it.

What you play through a speaker while new doesn't impact how it sounds when broken in. It has a small effect on how long it takes, but the best way to break in a speaker is to just use it and not worry about it at all.

I believe that to be a much better option than that floorhugging Horizontal Mesa Rec 2x12.

Sorry to those who adore floorhuggers!

if you're already playing loud, palm mute power chord 5ths and 4ths and walk up and down the neck 1 fret at a time, there will be spots that hum way more than others, where the pictures on the walls and the cups in the cabinets start to rattle, focus on those notes. palm mute to get the resonance humming then get off with your right hand to let the fundamental ring out, u want to get those resonance points where everything is locked in baked in as loud and as long a legally possible. a looper pedal is ideal, find the nodes, ping them and let it run for hours.
