Fun stuff getting all the software installed :whistle

Kicked the tires in Luna. Not too bad to configure Kontakt, but apparently it’s a relatively new thing in Luna for multi-outs. Lots of default actions in Luna feel foreign, so I think the first thing I’ll do is figure out using Console with Logic to eliminate the DAW variability, then nose around in Luna on rainy days.
  • Need to figure out SPDIF in the two systems
  • Need to comprehend the UA plugin ponzi scheme
Going to extinguish the fire in my wallet and figure out the software, then pivot to mics at the start of the new year.

Damn, it took ya less than 2 years to surpass me with studio knowledge stuff, I have no clue what any of that means. :rofl

Is there anything in particular attracting you to Luna? The little I poked around I . . .thought it MIGHT be interesting to use it as a mixing system, but still do all my "tracking" in Logic (where "tracking" for anything other than guitar involves an awful lot of MIDI-note-inputting/editing/manipulating) with the goal being to really do a better job of separating out the "getting the performance captured" and "mixing the track" processes as I definitely waste a LOT of time mixing-before-I'm-actually-ready-to-mix and crossing the streams of capturing a sound with mixing. But I also couldn't be bothered to really figure out how I'd export the "tracked" Logic session to Luna for mixing.

Congrats on the Audio Interface! It's not TOO hard to build up most everything you could need plugin-wise for not a ton of money now with the frequency of sales, etc.

I've been playing with Luna a bit after growing tired of Reaper and have been liking the workflow a lot. There are some things it still hasn't implemented (mono in stereo out on a track got me the other day) but I just like the interface and feel like I am not constantly fighting the program to get things recorded.

I can’t see any good reason to use Luna (yet) over more established DAW’s. Whenever I’ve nosed around in it, it feels like it’s still 5-10 years away from parity with the rest.

Logic is so cheap that if you have a mac you may as well just grab it and see how you get on. If the annoying parts of Logic start wearing you down, then I’d start looking at Cubase or Studio 1 or Pro Tools.

If you enjoy large and obtuse objects rammed through your orifices, Reaper has an unlimited trial period.

I actually prefer Console being kept seperate from the DAW, rather than Luna confusing the 2. You can have a monitoring mix and process stuff on the way in with Console, and use Logic/whatever DAW as your playback.

The MIDI and included instruments and FX from Logic alone will make it worthwhile.

I’ll probably just get Logic at some point - but I keep directing my $200 purchases to pedals :ROFLMAO:

I don’t know about all that. I’m in some sort of Input Monitoring hell trying to get Console working with Logic.

Nothing really pulling me to it. I know Logic, sorta, so it’s easier to just stay there for now. I was curious about Luna though since Console is already integrated in to it.

I think this monitoring flexibility it’s what’s giving me friggin issues. I’m monitoring alright… what, I have no idea. :ROFLMAO:

Took all day and a bit of RTFM to finally figure out how to get all the software/input monitoring down, depending on use case, between Console and Logic. #progress I’m not bothering with SPDIF/AxeFX usage yet, but I think it should be straightforward now. (Famous last words)

Just need to finish with a new Logic template tonight and I should be cooking and able to actually play some music with it. Onward to victory…

Luna's cool (have the newer Apollo x6) but I still consider it something to fuck around with as I'm used to Reaper.

Screwing around with it last night, everything just worked. (Which I suppose it should considering it’s their hardware and software) I can see that as a major upside to using the Apollo/Luna stack. It does seem a bit more congested, and some of the default actions were weird coming from Logic. I think I’ll dabble a little with it, but I’m realizing once you kind of have a comfort level with one DAW it’s hard to switch.

Update: Using Luna is like trying to brush your teeth with your left hand.

“How do I get out of looper mode, wait why the fuck is it highlighting a part of the track not the entire track, why is that sub menu not going away, what the fuck is wrong with that piano roll, fuck my secondary click commands are different”

Launching Logic…
