I can test - gimme a minuteI picked up the used Bluguitar Amp1 Iridium.
I was a bit surprised when I opened the package and saw that the previous owner had removed the magnets on the backside. I then noticed that the warranty seal (covering on of the holes for screws keeping the amp together) was broken. More alarmingly; when I turned it on I noticed that the fan didn't start running, but just made a kind of clicking noise in intervals (as if the fan is trying to start, but is not working properly).
I contacted the seller about this. He claims that the fan will only start when the amp has been in use for a while.
But I see that on BluGuitar's support pages they write that the fan on the Amp1 (at least on the Mercury Edition) starts running as soon as the amp I turned on: "We get lots of feedback from AMP1 users who are surprised that the AMP1's fan is running permanently. In fact, the fan starts running as soon as the amp is turned on." (link: https://support.bluguitar.com/en_US...-amp1-fan-to-make-a-very-loud-operating-noise).
@laxu and @2dor (and other owners of the Amp1): Do the fan in your amp start running as soon as the amp is turned on? And is it then running permanently?
Pfew - good thing for the buyer protection. Happy to see you found a way out of the sticky situation.Update on my case, fwiw:
With the fan issue and the way the seller responded on questions about that issue - and him also claiming he never opened the amp or broke the warranty seal, while claiming he was the original owner and that no one else had had the amp their possession - I didn't exactly trust the seller or his description of the amp's condition in general.
Thanks to a rather nice buyer protection scheme on the market place we used, I had 24h to inspect the item before my money would be released to the seller. Thus, I was able to raise a dispute and put the transfer on hold while I confronted the seller again. After some discussion, I have now dropped the amp off at the post office to be sent back to the seller and I will have my money refunded.
Thanks again @2dor, your quick confirmation really helped med out here.
Here's a little comparison of the two BluGuitar amps vs Mesa Mark V. I didn't try to dial them to sound the same, just dialed how I liked it playing in the room.
Listening to them back to back...I'm clearly the kind of idiot why tries to dial the same thing out of any amp I own subconsciously.
- Guitar: Fenix LP Custom copy w/ Mastertone active pickups
- Looper: Digitech Trio+. I think this adds a lot of noise, might be poor power.
- Cab: Bluetone 4x10 w/ 10" Greenbacks
- Mics: Shure SM57 + Austrian Audio OC16. Close miced with each mic on a different speaker.
- Audio interface: Focusrite Scarlett 6i6 2nd gen
- BluGuitar Amp1 Iridium Classic Channel
- BluGuitar Amp1 Mercury Classic Channel
- Mesa Mark V 90 ch3 MkIV mode
I don't think my mic setup quite captures how it sounds in the room further away because all sounded punchier than I got on record. It definitely does not capture how these amps feel because the Mercury is a much more "old school", looser feel. The Iridium and Mesa feel very similar.
Yeah that's a selling point of the Amp X. After the Helix Stadium announcement it's probably not a product I'm going to get though, the Amp X user interface just seems too far behind. Those sound surprisingly close. I would love to see them just combine the Iridium and Mercury, but I’m guessing that will be one of the upsell points for the Amp X?

Sorry I completely missed this. As 2dor said, the fan definitely runs but it should be inaudible after a brief spinup noise at startup. It only gets audible when you are really playing the amp loud for an extended time.I picked up the used Bluguitar Amp1 Iridium.

Did you at least get to try its sounds a bit?
