My Strat was crackling and shorting intermittently.

Hard to tell from that pic. Could be some questionable solder joints? I'd also put shielding tape in the cavity as well, instead of using that ground point to the shield paint. Not saying that's the issue, but I don't trust it all the time.

It was the extra pickup spring floating around in the cavity. I thought I lost it to the ether.

Yeah. I feel silly not noticing it before closing it up.

I think I’ve got to change up the values on the treble bleed as it seems to lose a bit of highs from 10 to 7. A lot less than without it installed though.
