Hmmmmm....
Here`s a theoretical shoot out-test that will never happen but would be very interesting nonetheless:-
=> take any Amp .... lets say a Fender Deluxe Reverb Combo .....no changes, just as is
=> record say 5 different passages by re-amping, noting the settings used, mics, positions etc.... so you have recordings of the real Amp -and- identical DI guitar tracks to feed the modelers later
=> shoot an IR of its speaker using the same mic's / positions / pres etc.... used to record the amp
=> give that exact Amp to L6 to model -and then- to Fractal to model
=> give L6 and Fractal the exact same IR that was shot
=> so L6 and Fractal are modeling and testing and comparing their model to *the exact same combo* with everything as identical as can be
=> when done, play them back through the same exact setup with the same IR and record the DI Track outputs
=> now compare the L6 model to the real amp and then compare the Fractal model to the real Amp all at the same settings
My personal guess is that each unit when null-tested against the real amp tracks would each have a very low "residual leftover" ...... probably no functional, audible or relevant difference.
Yes .... I know ...... It clearly doesn't matter ........ it would be a waste of time ..... and it will never happen ....... but here on TGF we seem to love endlessly debating the non-existent or irrelevant ....so ,,,, who wins ?
