Does the GT-3 have the analog dirt section, as the GT-5 has?
Interestingly enough, the GT-5 came before the GT-3. Guess they tried to follow "smaller numbers = less features" until then.

Not quite. GT-3 was smaller, uses an external PSU rather than internal, and slightly fewer effects (offhand I think the 5 had a reverse delay that isn't on the 3).

It really was good. I didn't find the menu diving difficult and it was really easy to set sounds up. Personally I prefer a menu system that goes for percentage readouts for effects setting than a more graphically "knob at 2 o'clock" approach.
The sound of panned delayed reverb on my setup bouncing from side to side whilst the amp in the middle handled the overdrive was glorious.

Fwiw, the GT-5 also was my first foray using modeling units in 4CM, along with a Marshall 6100 (switched via MIDI). After some initial noise issues (sorted by using a kinda humbuster cable some mate recommended, didn't know anything about that kinda stuff back then), that has been an incredible setup. Too bad editing on the GT-5 was pretty much a nightmare (especially compared to these day's offerings), otherwise anything like that might still be a pretty competent rig, IMO the FX would still hold up very well in a live context.

And while we are at Boss GT history already, my next GT was a GT-10. And I still like the concept to this very day. Really easy on unit editing, quality hardware and, at least IMO - while not authentic - pretty decent amp sounds that are nicely dynamic.
Anyhow, also wanted to use it in 4CM. No idea what they did to the poor unit, but boy, that's a tone sucker if there ever was one. There must be something truly bad happening to your signal somewhere in the pre-amp portion of the thing - very likely straight at the input, because DI tracks recorded with it never sounded great, either. I could actually crosscheck by sending a decent DI take into it via USB...
Interestingly enough, whatever happens seems to be kinda compensated when using the internal amp, but connect any preamp in the FX loop and you'll be wondering whether it all of a sudden turned into a shitty preamp.
Yes, you could kinda compensate for the loss with some level and EQ tricks, so I've been running it along with a Laney LC50 (really nice amp IMO, gathering dust in the basement since 5+ years by now, poor fella...) for a while, but ultimately got pissed of so much that I abandonded the entire pre-amp section and only used the GT as a controller and FX unit, then went back to a rack with a loopswitcher instead.
And well, I actually used the GT on some gigs in 2024 (had to leave things on a truck for some weeks, so I didn't want to use something more valuable), just running it through an AMT Pangaea as an IR loader, and it held up amazingly well.

This was my first modeling device. I got it just for the effects and got a Yamaha DG Stomp soon after for the amp modeling. Sold both of those to get the Vox TonelabSE when that was released.
I did use the amp modeling on the Toneworks on occasion. The volume swell guitars on this track were all Toneworks. The other electric guitars on here were my friend playing through a CyberTwin as well as the internal effects in the Roland VS-2000 we recorded on:

This was my first multi-effects unit, back in '88, I got it for my birthday. It was really awesome tbh.
I used in front of a little SS combo (I think it was a Roland cube, but I don't remember exactly).
An year later, I bought my first real amp (Laney AOR 100 half stack) and my guitar teacher showed me how to do 4CM and that was a legit pro rig.
I sold it all later and put together a rack setup with the ADA MP1.
For modeling, my first one was the original Line 6 POD, which I got when I started working there. I also got the Flextone 300w head at the same time. That head was actually great.
