Hey,

I got an Esp ltd KH-202 with Bone Breaker active pickups and a blackstar Id core V3 amp.

I was wondering how could I dial live Metallica tone for rhythm/lead and a clean tone.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome "Amp Modder".
You want Metallica's live tone from a Blackstar ID Core V3?
My biggest tip for you right now is choose the "Voice" (channel) that gives you the tightest palm mutes and practice practice practice.

"amp modder" doesn't sit well with wanting a live metallica tone (no less) from a small plastic practice amp.
What amps have you modded?

I haven't had the experience with modding or anything like that. My main source of knowledge comes from youtube videos and listening to how the sound corresponds to music.
Perhaps the correct question would be if I can dial such tone at all on this amp. My goal is to play song covers with other people so for that reason I also acquired a vox stomplab 2G processor. Maybe that would be an ideal tool for the tone.

Controversial take probably, but Hetfield’s tones have more to do with technique than anything else once you’ve got a reasonably high gain distorted tone happening.

From the amp side, I’d turn the ISF control all the way to the left (American side) and crank the gain up. Depending on the Metallica era you prefer you’ll need to adjust gain and midrange accordingly…generally older stuff is more scooped and distorted, newer stuff has more midrange and is slightly less saturated.

I noticed the amp also has cab simulation - I assume for direct recording. Big 4 x 12 cabs are a part of the Metallica vibe as well - you might want to try one of those through headphones and see how it sounds.

A small combo amp isn’t going to get you there no matter what, but that doesn’t mean you can’t get something workable.

Thanks, will try it out.
