I'm going to replace my old Asus ROG GL552VW that is becoming obsolete. It is a Game laptop, but I don't game. I've just found that they are great for DAW.

I am considering:
Acer Nitro V15 ANV15-41-R488Acer Nitro V16 ANV16-41-R724
AMD Ryzen 5 6600H 3.3 GHz 16MBAMD Ryzen 7 8845HS 3.8 GHz 16MB
32GB DDR516GB DDR5
15.6" FHD (1920x1080) IPS16" WUXGA (1920x1200) IPS
Nvidia GeForce RTX3050 6GB GDDR6Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 6GB GDDR6
HDD 512 GB PCIe/NVMe M.2 SSDHDD 512 GB PCIe/NVMe M.2 SSD
$742$890

Considering RAM Vs CPU, is the V15 a better option for DAW because of the 32GB RAM? If I'm not wrong, I believe that the extra RAM is preferable to that extra CPU power.

p.s.: buying 32GB RAM for the V16 would be out of budget.

I'll be that guy, get a Mac, the cheapest MacBook Air will outperform those by a mile.
You would double the cost of those and still only have the option for 24 GB RAM.

While the 8845 seems to outperform the 6600H by a good bit, for your uses likely the extra RAM is going to be more useful.

yeah- ive surely found that RAM is much more helpful over the years than some colossal processor. i just upgraded to a xeon 2950, which is absolutely outrageous- but 64 gigs of ram just hold down the fort for vsts and mixing. recording you could basically do with anything cause 8-16 tracks of unmolested 24 bit 44.1 your processor isnt workin that hard.

I would go with the 32 GB ram and neither have enough hard drive space for my liking. I wouldn't go with anything less than 1 TB these days. 1 GB is the minimum amount of RAM for me, 32 GB is preferred. With these things bumped up the system would probably last you for a good while.

meantime- i dont think 512mb hard drives are an issue- i always record masters to offboard usb3 plate drives for safekeeping and isolation from the system. hopefully you have the ports- but suspect nowadays youd end up routing most of yer perpipherals through a powered hub anyhow.

If you’re using VST’s with sample libraries ya definitely want to put some focus on the RAM, those things eat RAM like pieces of shit for breakfast.

I am going to miss the 3 drives of my current Asus GL552VW:
- 256TB M.2 SSD (for Windows only)
- 1TB SATA SSD
- 1TB SATA SSD at the CD Tray

I will have to move the Kontakt and Omnisphere libraries, Band in a Box Real Tracks, Backing tracks, projects, movies, and all the shit to a NAS 😅
