It’s Always Sad To See Another Excellent Guitar Shop/Store Closing Down😢

Once Daddy’s Junky Music went down, that was pretty much the death knell for local stores for me.

We’ve only got one down here, M.A.E., which is barely even a ghost of its former self. That used to be the joint for high end guitars and back line rentals for major touring acts, now there’s a handful of high end guitars and last I was in there, there wasn’t an amp selling for more than $400-$500 because it was all beginner/entry level stuff. That’s also the store where I got the refret that fucked my JEM up.

There was a small guitar shop near where I live in Japan. Open for 30+ years, but when I got know the owner a bit, he said he’d be closing the shop and retiring soon. Back in the day it was a mainstay in the region, but he said that young people were not buying guitars like they used to. I bought a few at his closeout sale, but to this day when I drive by the location I miss that shop.

Luckily our local guitar shop does more with the local HS band instruments, both rentals and purchases so that keeps their head above water. It's really nice to to walk in and at least the managers know you by first name. That shit wont happen at our local GC.

Daddy’s Junky Music in Worcester MA was a local gem until it closed.

Just looked online fwiw, but Kenny's is also located in Glasgow, Aberdeen and Dunfermline.

"The magic lives on in the four music stores in Glasgow, Dundee, Dunfermline and Aberdeen, and the mighty website here at kennysmusic.co.uk"

I had a guitar store fairly close by where I lived and visited it all the time in the early 2000s. Was sad to see it close.

Thankfully nowadays I have a couple of guitar stores right next to each other in my city and they are like maybe a 25 minute tram ride away from home so easy to just pop in. I always try to see if they have something I want to buy for a fair price.

I don't mind if it costs a little bit more than say Thomann, if it means I can support a local store and if any issues arise, deal with them.
