There's an easy compromise for that kind of OCD...

- Dial in your tone by ear
- Loosen (or pull off) your knobs and shift them to point straight up; tighten again.

Three benefits...
- Very easy to set
- Very easy to check if your settings are still correct
- Fooling others

I don't recall ever ending up with all knobs at 5 when dialing an amp.
Even if you get this, the knob still probably won't be at 5!
