I just blew my Jan gig money on 12 new pedals :bag

They’re all arriving at various times so thought I’d post in one thread as they come in.

Day 1 new arrivals:

OBNE Fault V2

This is the big story for me here. I’ve been using a NOTAKLON on my big board and I keep thinking “I wish I could dial in a little more low end with my Strat”, and “I wish I could toggle between two gain settings.

Enter the Fault. It seemed like it might be a good replacement that would give me those two things and so far it does not disappoint!

I hate Klons for standalone drive, I only like them to boost another drive (or amp) harder. So far the Fault has been excellent for this! I love having 3 band EQ and the extra boost from Gain 2 is just perfect. The only downside is how close those bottom knobs are to the footswitches… I’m a little worried about that in the heat or battle, but we’ll see.

OBNE Sunlight

I got this because in theory it seemed like a better fit than the Dark Star on my board. Sadly this was a bad choice. Like the Dark Star it’s amazing for big ambient pads, but it’s incapable of anything more subtle than that. I might keep it around to throw in the board for gigs that call for that sort of thing, but It’s probably going to go.

EHX Small Clone

This I got for nostalgia. I need a chorus on my small electric board so I thought I’d go with something fun. I had one of these on my main gigging board forever and this new one sounds just how I remember. For $60 it feels like a steal!

I was a huge Kurt fan back in the day, but I actually didn’t even know he used a Small Clone back when I got mine! It was just what I found at my local shop when I went to buy a chorus and I liked the look of it. Back then I had no idea what anyone used unless there was something about it in Guitar World, haha

Nice haul, Met. I look forward to spectating :popcornon this thread.

I do get a dash of humour from such a staunch "traditionalist" needing an Overdrive with sliders,
toggles, knobs, and footswitches. Hmmmmm.......

:rofl

Tread carefully!!! :)

I am traditionalist in a lot of ways, but I’m not entirely traditionalist when it comes to pedals. I also really enjoy experimental, and things that allow you to explore different textures and sounds. I often like using unconventional approaches to get unique textures.

I’ve got some Indy/Alternative/Avant Garde roots in me you guys don’t know about, and pedals tend to draw out that side of my inner guitarist.

EAE The Bard

I got this to use alongside my Citadel as a clean preamp channel into power amp + cab. It's pretty good at that so far. It works well as a clean channel into my Phantom Block and the AC30 power amp. Pedals sound good in front of it. It’s definitely got that Music Man amp vibe in the tone. I was kind of looking for solid state jazz amp tone and it’s working for that.

What I didn’t expect is how much I like it as an overdrive!

With it being described as a “trashy” “unapologetically not ‘tube like’” overdrive based on a solid state preamp it didn’t sound like my cup of tea. But now I’m thinking I might need a second one to use as a drive. It might even replace the Lightspeed for me for certain gigs.

Like my Citadel it’s got amazing clarity and note definition! I might have found a new go-to brand for drives.

If you’ve ever used a Boss fa-1 (or similar) it’s got the same vibe. But it overdrives very nicely and is surprisingly responsive.

I haven’t had time to try it on bass yet, but I have a hunch it might make an excellent bass preamp!

Nice one!!!

How's the headroom?

Doesn't Kingsley also make a "Bard?" Man, I get so confused..... maybe people can start using
Sanskrit or something so there is less name overlap.

Cool! :cheers

We sure do seem to cross signals when it comes to humour, Met. :idk

If you think I am seriously questioning your choices, or calling something out just assume
it is my bad humour going off the rails. Again.

And yes, I do think you owning an OD with sliders and toggles and knobs with a dual footswitch
is kind of funny, to me, in an ironic sort of way.... given your past statements about options and functionality
and simplicity.

But hey, I'll contradict myself at least 84 times today, and that is nowhere near my personal best.

Look forward to tomorrow's haul!!

Nice one!!!

How's the headroom?

It’s good! It’s got less headroom than the amps, but I think that’s a good thing and probably an intentional choice as they’re emphasizing the overdrive characteristics of the amp. It’s got enough headroom to use it as a clean preamp with any of my guitars. I just plugged my Jazz V bass into it and it handled that well.

Cool! :cheers

No, I didn’t think you were seriously questioning my choices! Sorry if my post came off that way. I liked your post and laughed when I read it and I appreciated it. I should have added some laugh emojis to my response to be more clear

I saw a post I wrote here a year or so ago where I said I just liked simple and minimal when it comes to pedals and I laughed at how badly that has aged :rofl

Have you ever tried that Chase Bliss/Benson mash up with the automated sliders?

I haven’t, but I’ve always been curious. I probably should check one out, especially since preamp pedals have sort of become my new obsession.

Didn’t it have motorized sliders and MIDI?

Yup. And a $699 price tag, as I recall.

Just looks super fun and interesting. Price of admission is a tough ask for me, though.

How about the Benson stuff? You tried any of it, by chance?

Or the Hudson Broadcast? :popcorn

The small clone is such a great sounding chorus. I kinda regret selling mine but I got all OCD about the popping sound when clicking it on. At least they are cheap and readily available, I will probably try again at some point.

So by my count there are 8 more incoming. Not that I am a porch pirate or anything, but if someone could PM me Met's shipping address it might be appreciated.
