And it sounds and feels great. D’addario 9-45s:
I would be careful with that. It is my understanding that the tension from the steel strings is much higher than the tension of the nylon strings. This is important as the manufacturers of nylon string guitars aren't building them to support that amount of tension. Not that they won't support such tension, but just saying, watch it (especially neck warp and bridge lift - nut and saddle would also be of concern to me considering they may be of materials that are better suited to nylon and may wear quickly with steel strings)! Glad you are liking it ;~))And it sounds and feels great. D’addario 9-45s: View attachment 40577
I got the same tension as the set I had on there! Martins come with 13s, I’ve got 9s on here. And I hear you, that’s why I did it to a $200 Yamaha (not knocking the guitar, it’s awesome)I would be careful with that. D’addario has a set for classical guitar that exceeds 100lbs - I’m goodFwiw, a quick online search seems to indicate the 95lbs is a lot of tension, esp on an acoustic bridge. Not "it's about to give" high, but wait and see!
It took about a year or so for my father's classical guitar to tear itself apart.D’addario has a set for classical guitar that exceeds 100lbs - I’m good![]()
Why are so many of D’addario string sets over 80lbs?It took about a year or so for my father's classical guitar to tear itself apart.
80lbs is about standard for a classical guitar.
Curious what were the string gauges on those steel strings? It took about a year or so for my father's classical guitar to tear itself apart.

Sorry, but that was many, many years ago when I first took up electric. He hadn't restrung his Classical guitar for years prior to that, and grabbed a pack of 9's or 10's EB I had - then put it away again until he found it all messed up one day a year or two later.Curious what were the string gauges on those steel strings?
Very bad idea also it really should sound substantially better with quality nylon strings.
And it sounds and feels great.
It’s damaging the guitar and maybe he had poor or inappropriate strings. You’re definitely doing something wrong if a set of electric 9s sounds better than the intended sound. Maybe it’s just a horrible guitar?
Eh I just like to fuck around, and I knew the risks, and it turned out A-okIt’s damaging the guitar and maybe he had poor or inappropriate strings. You’re definitely doing something wrong if a set of electric 9s sounds better than the intended sound. Maybe it’s just a horrible guitar?
I solemnly swear to come back to this post should that happen and update! It's A-ok for now. Sometimes it takes awhile for the bridge to loosen and come off. Hopefully it'll be alright.
