I think mahogany is my preferred body wood.

there is an common material theme between PRS standard 22/24, gibson SG, LTD viper 400, ibanez iceman, les paul junior. the grain density highly favors guitar register

My favorites for electrics have long been mahogany with maple tops and mahogany necks. The combination sounds warm and articulate.

But I also like basswood on a Strat, as well as Swamp Ash on a Strat or Tele. If a combination sounds good and does what you need, it IS good! There's room for variety.
The basswood body seriously gives a punch that none of my mahogany guitars have. I'm still surprised by that.
Might be why so many Strat players swear by it.

I do like mahogany, but I only have one guitar with it. '77 Ibanez Artist. Maybe one day I'll do a strat style with full mahogany, ebony fingerboard.
Right now, my favorite is swamp ash body, 1 pc. maple neck. It just sounds and resonants right for me.
