I Feel My Eyes Getting Worse

I made it into my 50's not needing 'readers.' And I'm aware that once you start using them, you're not exercising the muscle that adjusts your cornea as much, so it starts a downhill trend.

The past couple months we've been finishing the project wherein I broke my heel, so the first thing I did when I returned, was to install the kitchen and mud room cabinets, then onto all the various trim carpentry, all requiring a sharper vision than I now have, up close. So, readers.

And I can feel it. I want to increase my monitor's zoom one more setting. (But I'm resisting...)

I'm right there with you. I was at Costco the other day and bought readers. I have progressive lenses but I wanted readers so I don't have to keep moving my glasses around the house to read.

I had perfect vision until my 40s. Last visit, optometrist said my distance vision actually improved a little but small text is getting fuzzier and I notice I need more light than I used to. It's annoying but my vision could be a lot worse. I can get through most of the day without wearing my glasses.

Myopia is developing in people younger and younger every year. Residing most of our lives in small rooms and in front of screens exacerbates it. In 50 years laser eye surgery will simply be part of the basic eye exam.

Wore glasses as a kid, with an eye patch to correct “lazy eye.” Was mercilessly mocked by peers but the glasses and patch helped.

Didn’t need glasses at all until I hit 60, and then got some reading glasses made, and also a second set with different lenses to help read music charts at stand distance.

I've had glasses since I was I don't know, maybe 10 or something. Around 10 years ago I had laser surgery and haven't needed glasses since, but I think my vision has degraded a bit since (as I was told would happen) as I can't read e.g the bus number from as far away as in the past, but good enough that glasses are not yet needed.

Get glasses if you need 'em.

Progressive lenses and a hammer are not a good combo for me
Depth perception is off a little bit

A girl in grade school 2 years behind me had the same thing, and wouldn't you know it, she had a little crush on me!

I liked her older sister though. Ended up both playing clarinet, both took lessons from the same private teacher, both made the MD All-State Band, 1st chair, 1st clarinet in successive years, and I ended up taking her to my prom.

Seems SO long ago...

Progressive bi-focal is where it's at if you don't need distance correction.

I still have 20/10 distance vision, any correction above where I need to read is very disorienting.

Actually, wrt being able to see the guitar, my practice is paying off in other ways too: If I'm being real, I really don't need to look at the guitar neck very much any more.

I kinda "test" myself from time to time, and I can usually nail position shifts w/o looking. Bout 4 out of 5 times. It's all dat "muscle memory" sheet they talk about, I spose.

I started wearing readers early last year, I think it was. Sucks, and I fought it for months before thinking I could stretch it out. But my eyes were getting more tired that way so I finally broke down and got a pair. Actually, I have like 5 or 6 pair scattered around the house and at work. :ROFLMAO::geek:

Sitting in front of monitors all day, since forever, forced me to get glasses around 40.

Now have some made to block blue light and I haven't had eye strain in over 3 years. Also haven't had to increase the prescription since 2019, whew.

Wear the same glasses playing guitar, just have to take them off when I play Blues, or else no sound comes out of my monitors.

I don't have to wear them playing guitar yet, thankfully. It's just far enough away that it's not a problem. We'll see how the years play out though.

I bit the bullet about 2 to 3 years ago. Use them vary sparingly. :idk

Age and the degradation that comes with it avoids no one. Just
a matter of much or how little.... or how fast or slow it finds us.

I don't read Tab or use Sheet Music. Just play by ear, so I never wear
them when playing guitar. I also have a massive curved computer monitor
that makes me happy every day I use it.

I've had glasses stuck to my face since I was 8. I have astigmatism and myopia. One eye is worse than the other. If I don't wear my glasses, my eyes strain and I get a headache within minutes.

My vision sucks. My depth perception is terrible and I'm light sensitive, prone to migraines. Hat and sunglasses outside as much as possible and night driving makes me feel like Mr. Magoo.
