Hotone Verbera - Convolution reverb

Cool pedal! Hotone always interesting

•turn and look at my old TC T2…. You’re safe buddy, these new gadgets got nothing on you… they tout dry through like it’s a new thing… you’re safe buddy, old but gold!•

Waiting for them to come up with a YouTube audio ai translation option to be able to watch your vid, Brockstar!

A few marketing shots pair the Verbera with an Ampero II Stomp. Given reverbs can really suck up resources on the Stomp, maybe the best use of the Verbera is offloading the Stomp/Stage from reverb. And it does it with better quality and offloads the IRs as well, which I assume is also higher quality than Stomp or Stage. With resource hungry cloning now available, I can see this Verbera easing the strain on DSP. Would be nice if the Stomp and Verbera linked digitally to avoid a DA/AD/DA conversion, but hey, maybe it does there’s not much info out yet.

Nothing about the videos sounded that great to me. But let’s wait and see what it’s like when these drop.

Do you have some examples of other reverbs that sound great to you?

Because to my ears it sounds great but I’d like to challenge my own perspective.

Sounds pretty great to me, but I really like how this operates. The infinite encoders, small screen and the LEDs that change in intensity to give you an idea of how much of each knob is in play are a nice mix.

For a reverb it does just enough to be versatile, yet not overwhelming with parameters. I find that with e.g my SA Collider I don't really care about not having all of Ventris parameters to play with because the reverbs sound great without tweaking any of that, whereas the Collider's delay side could use some stuff from the SA Nemesis.

Really interested to see what else Hotone might put out with this new platform. A cab sim pedal would be an obvious one, though you could probably use this for that too if you can upload your own IRs into it.

Those goddamn ring LEDs everywhere, nope, not me. It's a guitar pedal ffs not a christmas tree.
Focusrite f'uped their Gen4 Saphire audio interfaces with this shit, no way to turn it off either.
Beauty LEDs and rounded corners in UI can go to design hell.

The IR sorting function made me think " @laxu would enjoy this" when I first messing around with the pedal. There's some very thoughtful features on there.

I should also add that when I posted that, @2112s video hadn’t dropped yet or at least I hadn’t seen it. I did listen to his video later, but I was working on something else and didn’t really pay attention.

I think I heard him say that since it’s convolution reverb it can’t do modulation in the captures, if I heard that right I’m probably not gonna be interested in this as there’s hardly anything I would want to capture that doesn’t have some sweet modulation on it that I wouldn’t want to lose.

Gotta say that this thing sounds fantastic in your video, @2112, especially as you can as well blend in the algorithmic portion! The featureset seems to be just right, too, at least for my taste/needs.
Them not finding a better place for the MIDI I/Os is quite weird, though. I mean, even if you use angled plugs, there's still chances to step on them on a pedalboard. And as the switches are sorta close to each other and the edges, you will need some leeway between this and whatever neighbour pedals anyway, so they could as well have moved them to the sides in case the back is too crowded - which it actually even isn't, AFAICT.

Anyhow, this goes on my "need to think about" list.

One thing for me is, with all these super lush quality reverbs and what not (not talking about just the Verbera), you basically need stereo monitoring to really enjoy things. Collapsed to mono, they lose quite some of their appeal IMO. But for live, I'm a strictly mono guy and can't see that being changed any day soon. For the stuff I usually do (typically with keyboards present), there's just not much sense in going stereo. And outside of the live realm, hence usually in front of my computer when playing, I got more than enough kickass reverbs to run into option paralysis all the time.
For live purposes, in case I need some spacey sounds, I usually find delays to be the better choice in a mono setup.
