I keep buying the wrong reverb pedal! Help me find the right one. Here’s what I want:

Must have:
  • Plate or Lexicon 224 hall reverb
  • Analog dry thru
  • Good decay control
Optional:
  • Tone control
  • Modulation
  • True bypass option
That’s it! I keep buying these modern ambient reverbs and I realize what I actually want is just a good old Lexicon 224 hall or a plate.

Nothing too fancy or expensive.

This will mostly be used on acoustic guitars for that ‘80s Mark Knopfler Princess Bride sort of thing

Looking at those… if all I care about is the hall and I don’t need stereo is there any advantage in getting the Golden over the Evermore? Is the reverb itself the same?

A while back, I was considering picking up the UA Golden. I then figured I’d be most interested in the plate reverb and that I could get by without stereo. So I picked up the UA Heavenly instead.

I’ve since then bought the UA Golden and sold the Heavenly. Stereo is nice (but not THAT important to me), but I really like having all the reverb types available.

It should be the same algorithm - I’m assuming the Golden has more options to tweak since it has the app. Predelay on the Evermore is a fixed on/off switch for example.

My first experience with those Lexicon algos in pedal form was with the Digitech Hardwire RV-7.
Back when they were had for $99 in the 2000s. That pedal blew my mind. SO GOOD!

Now you can't touch for them under $300. :whistle

Not sure the Polara from Digitech has the same algos or not. It may.

But yeah, Plate is cool when you need something other than the Sproing of a Spring Reverb!
:banana

I am not a fan of the UA stuff. I should be. Besides, those are not Plate-style 'Verbs in the Evermore, are they?

I even dig the lowly Hall of Fames from TC more. I have tried to kill my love of that with multiple brands.
The dumb things are hard to beat for all they offer for $90.

I do want to try out the Nocturne from Keeley/Andy Timmons, though. I have seen/heard great things
about the Plate Algo on that. :idk

Yeah that's my recommendation too. And yes the Polara has the same algorithms.

If you can go for 19" i love my lexicon mx300 and digitech s400. Both have great reverbs and loads more. Plus they are very affordable but highly addictive

I found an Evermore for $90 so decided to give that a try.

I looked at RV-7 and Polara but the Evermore was half the price, analog dry thru, and true bypass so seems like it’s worth a look.

Maybe silly, but when the whole rig is already analog dry thru it’s hard to swallow breaking that

Yes, it's silly. You'll want a buffer with all those wires in that case anyways. Might as well save the space and make it a pedal with a good buffer.
