I heard Guthrie Govan's solo in Steven Wilson's "Ancestral" and wanted to learn it. I looked for tabs, but most seemed off — the fast passages especially didn't look right or particularly efficient — so I decided to give it a shot and transcribe it by hand in Guitar Pro 8.
I found an isolated track of the solo, and since Guitar Pro 8 lets you load audio alongside the tab and slow it down, I was able to work through it with some patience. For the fastest runs I had to drop the playback to around 10%
I probably leaned on dotted notes next to regular notes more than I should have — a lot of those passages are likely better written as triplets — but eh, good enough for now.
Now I can loop sections, slow them down, and gradually work the solo up to full speed, which is exactly what I wanted.
I've attached the Guitar Pro 8 transcription here ((Remove the .txp extension from Ancestral Solo.gp.txp — I couldn't attach the raw .gp file directly.)
