Friedman Runt 20H - need you guys

I think DD is just having a go at it.:banana Funny to me, and as an owner of a few EL84 based amps
I am not bothered by any of it. All good.

It's up to each of us to know what we want out of our gear, and if high headroom chugs, and
drop-tuned guitars are it, then EL84s are really a death trap that will offer only frustration, and
cruel, cruel disappointment.

Roots/Rock/Country with some tasty compression and easy on the ears break up then 6L6s
by the foursome are a nightmare.

Different tools for different tasks. Not hard for me to see a perfect place for everything, and
also see the worst possible place for everything. :idk

This is all cooking and recipes, to me. What do we like, how many are we serving, and what ingredients
are going to give us the end results we are after??? :beer

EL84s - the ‘angry duck caught in a bear trap’ of guitar amps. Perfect for those that love to play guitar but also love the tone produced by a 90s-era fax machine. Do you love the sound of amplifiers like the BE100 and Dual Rectifier? What if we made it more portable, only 10 pounds, still the price of the full size head on the used market, but when you crank it up it sounds like you’re trying to solo through a kazoo?
Kazoos rock bro.

I will again caution against saying the Runt is "plexi-ish". It's not. First, Friedman =/= Marshall. Second, the Runt is not really a low gain amp. The gain around the half point is already higher than any plexi and it gets more saturated from there.

I had the Runt and my plexis at the same time in the same room and I love them both for different reasons/applications, but they're not the same or very close to each other. For a Marshall, a DSL would be the closest to the Runt, but again the Friedman BE style tone is different. It's tighter, smoother and more modern overall.

Buy the Runt if you like the Friedman sound (which I do). If you are looking for a Plexi sound by Friedman the Plex would be the right amp, not the Runt. Or Ceriatone, if you are looking for an alternative brand. Or obviously, a Marshall SV20 or 1987X or 1959 (with a PPIMV or Power Station for volume control).

btw, I am recording with these amps as I type this:
