Friedman IR-Load

This is definitely the most intriguing thing released this year at NAMM for me, but man my skepticism is running high, like it’s either going to be fucking phenomenal or it’ll be a class D amp with some additional EQ. As much as Dave’s spoken against modeling, particularly in this area of it, the dude either legitimately figured out how to make it work as described or it’s a “can’t beat em, join ‘em” product.

At $1400 I sure as hell want it to be badass. The stereo aspect makes it a legit consideration for replacing my PS100.

The Wampler have the same tech, and it was A/B with a Smallbox at NAMM by multiple pro players, dealers, and regular people that wanted to try. There are several videos on YouTube and on Synergy Facebook account and I'm sure there will be more.

Volume was pretty high, they were playing by themselves and still didn't manage to pick what was what. Still is something that needs to be experienced firsthand.

Ps. check out the Andertson video, he really tried hard. I'm the one removing the power supply.

Dave didn't figure out shit. The new tech in both this and the Wampler is from Synergy (Politoleo). Dave just decided to offer a product with it bundled together with a supposedly better reactive load.

I wouldn't give Dave too much credit nor worry too much about his involvement. While it has some modeling in it, the IR-Load is a good product to pair with Dave's tube amps, so I can see why it fits with his lineup. The Wampler is a much better device to pair with a modeler or preamps/preamp pedals and fits better with other Wampler and Synergy products.

That andertons video was pretty funny. I watched a bunch of them and I'm buying the hype.
I'll sell the orange pedal baby and pick one of these up. At worst it'll still be smaller and have stereo outputs and at best it'll be mojo city.

No problems with the pedal baby here, does exactly as advertised. But after a few years I'm happy to try something else and the wampler seems like the perfect thing to try.

I’m definitely stoked to give it a shot! If you see at the beginning of this tread, I quite literally asked Dave for this exact thing years ago, I just figured it was going to have tubes in it if it had his name on it!

FWIW I had a PedalBaby for a good while, sold it and I'm definitely getting the Wampler when it becomes available.

Yup. Dave is a glorified amp modder/rig builder. I guarantee he doesn't know jack shit about machine learning, AI, LLM's, or ICMP's. (Last one's a joke: he might know how to ping).

Yeah, I think he'd be the first to admit that.
One of the good things about the BAD umbrella is that it's a good format for top builders in different styles/tech to collaborate (in this case Friedman + Synergy).

Absolutely, we did this in partnership and neither he or Brian are claiming differently.
Even the products are labeled as "powered by Synergy"

However you'd be shocked to know all the pro Player Dave vetted this with. He knows what they dislike from other solutions, from UI to sound to reliability issue, all coming from real word usage. Now also add Pete Thorn to the equation..

So yes, he may have little do to with the core machine learning tech, but that's a powerful tool, not a product!

And same goes with Brian!
