Favorite locking tuners in 2025?

Yeah, those Schallers are the ticket for my guitar. I never liked the winged tuners, after I had a set of Phase II on my other PRSi.

Having said that, I've been talking about that forever and haven't done it, so it's not THAT big of a problem, lol.

If you ever want to get rid of those Phase I's...

I feel like he had Phase IIs with the cut at one point as well but he's been scaling back operations a LOT recently.

Love Schaller.

I've got Gotoh SD90s on a bunch of guitars with 3 aside headstocks and they've been great.

The cheap Guyker Strat locking tuners I put on my Player II are decent for the money too.

I either use what came on the guitar (PRS phase 2, Gotoh auto locking) or will upgrade to something that makes sense for that guitar (Fender tuners that have the alignment pin, vintage looking Gotoh, etc.). I do like the Hipshot tuners with the mounting plate if you don't want to drill the guitar.

Hipshot Grip-Locks are the most satisfying tuners I've ever turned.

I think I’ll be doing Schaller from now on. I’ve got Sperzels on my Tele, and they’re……okay. Not as bad as Sperzels past, but still not as smooth as the Schallers.

I used Grover Auto-Locking Mini button Rotomatics (no thumbwheel) on both my Teles and they are fantastic. Smooth as anything out where and a very cool mechanism that looks nearly identical to regular Grovers and weighs the same. When it came time to swap out the hot garbage tuners that came on my HB EX-84 I found that not only had prices increased quite an bit but black ones were insanely priced. I ended up getting something priced more in line with the guitar, a set of black Guyker thumbwheel type lockers. I was surprised to find they are as smooth as my Grovers. Only time will tell how well they hold up. I've been very careful about not overtightening the thumbwheel as stripping of that part is where I see the most complaints with budget lockers. The black finish is really well done on them.
