I got my tokai last month and absolutely love it.

I'm surprised how quickly I bonded with it tbh.

Before it arrived I'd planned a whole bunch of mods including swopping out the bridge and tailpiece for faber units.

Has anyone used faber parts before and got any experience of replacing zinc parts with these?

Before the guitar arrived I was definitely going to fit these but it sounds so good as is I'm tempted to just leave it alone and play it but the FOMO is nagging in my brain that it might sound even better.

Their abr1 is zinc so was Gibson’s . The stop tail was aluminium.

I haven't done a thing to my Edwards. Believe it has the Gotoh hardware. I wonder if yours is the same?

@Eagle probably knows. :idk

Top quality, don’t change them. Gibson have used zinc and aluminium for the stop tail and I prefer aluminium but the Gotoh zinc one is fine.
There is nothing wrong with a quality zinc cast part . It’s when they do a sintered powder die cast that it is shitty . Gotoh doesn’t do that.

Yeah it's exactly the same gotoh hardware on both. It sounds great unplugged tbh really loud and resonant. I'm just wondering if the grass is greener because I'm an idiot who can't leave stuff well enough alone.

The unplugged and amplified tone changed noticeably when I swopped my tele saddles so was thinking about the zinc saddles on the Gotoh vs a brass saddle bridge.

It does sound good as it is so I should probably just leave it.

You can try it but I honestly wouldn’t bother.

Actually @Eagle one thing I do need to do something about is an annoying vibration that happens when I hit an open low E. It's the neck pickup and only when I lower it. It's only noticeable acoustically but it's still driving me nuts.

Do I need different springs or foam under the pickup?

Longer springs will fix that.

Tokai and Burny both use good hardware on their Japanese stuff. No reason to change from stock. I have contemplated swapping to a Faber compensated bridge on my Tokai LP special but that’s not due to any shortcomings in the stock hardware.

What do you think of your tokai LP special? I've been gassing for one of those since I got my Tokai LP.

If you like a LP Special, you’ll like the Tokai. This one is flawless. Beautiful finish, nice fretboard, solid hardware, good pickups. Exceptionally smooth player too, uber slinky.

My Gibson gets most of the LP Special duties these days but not due to any workmanship or quality issues with the Tokai. The Gibson is 7lbs even and has a slightly fatter neck that just makes that particular guitar work a little better for my preferences.

I keep thinking about selling the Tokai but it’s such a nice guitar I’ve pulled it off the market a few times.

I've never owned one but I've played a bunch of them. I don't have any P90s in my life these days so my next guitar will fix that. I've had les Paul's with P90s before so think I'll go for a special this time.

Yeah the Les Paul P90 combo is a real vibe. I keep an eye out for nice Tokai ones - will let you know if I come across anything tasty.
