Been thinking about modulation since winter now. First thought was to just go for a simple trem, then I thought… fuck… i only have one spot for a mod pedal and i want it to do something more. Been looking at all sorts of multi digital single pedal format things. Plethora, Hotone, EHX mod, HX One… the list is long… but then stumbled across some YouTube clips with the Walrus M1 (mk 1). Bam. That’s the one.

It goes against my quest for simplicity but it still ticks a few very unique boxes in one.
Tremolo, Vibe and Lo-Fi options. (cheaper than most options) Done!

Added bonuses that i really look forward to is the whole secondary section that can be added to the choosen effect:
Envelope/drive/space. Age/noise/warble.

Deal is done 200 usd including shipping - (excl eventual import/tax, if I’m lucky it will slip through customs… probably not) - which is a great price compared to the now new mk 2.

Will probably take a few weeks, hence the “PE” which is my way of taking care of my friends here. The real “E” will have to wait until it’s here. Ample load up time, for a pleasing “release”.

I love your measured, considered, slow burn approach to gear acquisition these days. Many of us here could learn a lot from that, I'm sure!
It’s really nice and I feel so good about gear now. It’s not an itchy, low noised, inner stress underneath the surface anymore.

My “start over” is approaching a year now. It was this time, around summer last year i decided to give guitar and gear (or me) another chance. And I’m so happy that I didn’t rush. Sorting through some old pedals, really thinking about every purchase, and carefully weighing needs/wants.
Slowly I’ve been getting back the inspiration to just play and noodle while at the same time appreciate the nerdy parts.
So it’s been a slow process with careful steps to not run straight into a psychological mess that leads to a sudden breakdown and purge.

I’m comfortable now. I’ll eventually reach a point where I’m ready to record and focus on writing (for my own pleasures). When that times comes I will have to tackle the last hurdle of the “attention seeker” and “egomaniac” in relation to social media and other mediums.

I’m pretty clear that I will be adding that, some form of throwing out stuff. But the last mental journey is to do that in a way that doesn’t break me down again.

One thing I can say have been the best method for my kind of “issues”. It’s just to forget about everything and close the door, for days, a week, whatever… it’s just some shit in a room that doesn’t deserve the right to steal my focus from kids, wife, house…. Life.

Sounds like you’re in a good place right now. Hope you enjoy the new pedal!

Wow that was fast, from Canada and passed customs for once in my life!! First time I’ve had anything slip through toll inspectors, without having to make up for the huge loss Europe is punished with from my purchase. This was a damn steal in that regard.

Damn walrus… they always tickle my nerdy side.. I want to insta buy the Arp and Slö when i see this….. but i won’t.

In place. Board is now full and I am at the point where I will have to say to my self this may be enough. I don’t really need more now, but I could… if I get a bigger board.

First, play through the M1 and explore its stuff. It’s a good pedal for sure, a quick test revealed a very cool harmonic tremolo and that alone is nice to have. It’s trem and the lo-fi stuff i am after here.

Second, nothing is attached, it’s Tetris time. Need to “finish” the board and put it on floor so i can get lost in my noodles.

I’ve not tried a Walrus Audio effects pedal only there Power 15 PSU and Canvas tuner..

I must say that the M1 is really cool. I was a little afraid it would give me option paralysis but it’s ok actually. It actually helps that it doesn’t have a screen and menus for me, like the mk2 version. Just twist the knobs and save the preset. It’s cool that the multiple functions on the same knob are accessed with a toggle switch.

I’m not some kind of tremolo connoisseur but I quickly found what I think is a harmonic trem and tweaked it to my liking. There’s to many variations in every effect but just turning the knobs or flipping the toggle switches makes it easy. The vibe is very cool, as well as the rotary thing. I don’t really like chorus so I’ll leave that alone.

Running my delays and reverbs into it sound magnificent (I know it may be a weird order of things) But I tried it before delays approximately 1 minute and realized it was not my thing. Especially when it comes to trem and vibe. I very much prefer the delay trails to be effected or in other words, the delay trails keeps the M1 going. The other way around it everything kinda gets lost.

Reverb on the other hand needs to be on both sides. Luckily my early chain TC Trinity T2 is set prominent and it drives the M1 pretty good. So I’m thinking putting my Wet v5 after the M1.

Another cool aspect of this pedal is the whole Lo-fi section. This was very surprisingly good stuff. There’s a really cool darker reverb that sounds like it’s post effect which easily goes into ambient territory. And a drive that adds some nice break up. Then there’s age and noise. I will probably make a lo-fi preset with these things.

All in all. It’s a great multi functional pedal and I’m glad took the plunge on something more… more… than just single trem. Because this certainly inspires my creativity and ideas.
