Earthquaker Devices ZEQD-Pre Tube Preamp pedal

ya know- im a little bit with JT here. i think the house eqd sound is just too splatty murky for me. don't ask what i think about doom sounds.. but i kinda think thats their market.

just gimme a good overdrive and im happy. the vid sounded okay, but kinda spitty. having had a carmen ghia i KNOW dr z can make a rager of a rock amp. it didnt sound much like that.

100% for ohio rock collaborations though!

It is an interesting combo because “splatty murky” is the complete opposite of what Dr Z amps sound like!

Tight, punchy, percussive, defined are the first words that come to mind when I think about Z amps

EQD is to me all aesthetics. Like I'm paying for a paint job more than anything else?
The one boost I had from them (arrows? I don't remember -- was a one-knob-jobber) had this super bright "am I running a buffer in front of a fuzz?" hifi-detail-that-was-really-annoying and so...haven't bothered getting any of their other stuff. I could see that being useful for some stuff...but not for me.

All the Dispatch Master clips sound great, but I've got all those sounds covered.

I had the Plumes and at most; was whelmed. It was easy to dump

Jamie seems like a good dude, and I actually like his style of playing. The majority of their pedals aren’t my thing, but the Dispatch Master is goated. Not that you can’t cop those tones a million ways, but it’s awesome because it’s just four dials and the truth. :ROFLMAO:

I’ve wanted to give the Afterneath a spin.

Props where due, EQD is legit!

I only have two of their pedals, both the Fuzz Master General and Zoar are ridiculously good.

Also, the Dispatch Master is a staple in a lot of professionals' rigs.

EDIT: Flexi Switch hate, seriously? Best thing since sliced bread, imho. YMMV tho

I can’t even tell you how many times I hit the Plumes for a solo during a performance, and I got nothing. I look down and realize it’s off because I left my foot on the switch a split second too long and it went into momentary mode. So I hit it again but it’s too late, the moment in the music is blown.

It’s just me. I don’t always lift my foot quickly enough off the switch because I’ve never had to worry about that before. So it became another thing I had to think about that took me out of the music in the moment.

The guitar community has tourettes syndrome, but for Kingsley (it used to be BKP pickups suggested for everything). Zero interest in any of their stuff, and the excessive amount of people suggesting them make me even less interested. There'll be some threads where people will specifically state they are not interested in Kingsley, and people will still recommend it anyways. It wasn't mentioned until the 10th post though, so maybe it's slowly starting to go away finally.

Hahah! Definitely overrated and overblown. To me. I've tried most all of them.

Happy for the dudes that love them, but I was massively disappointed. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Some of the most unforgiving amps I have ever had the (dis)pleasure of playing.

They definitely cut in a mix and can tear your head off. It's odd, too, as Mike has a
ton of flavours, but all of his flavours have a signature thing you described.

Cool amps. Just didn't end up being my bag.

I approve! EQD/Jamie are legends! One of the first (and arguably!) best to ever do it in the Baskins Robbins
House Of Flavours Pedal Game Wars!

Anyone try one of these out in front of a modeler?

I watched the longer vid they did, and it's interesting how they talked about using it in front of one. I know from experience how well a clean tube preamp > a model or capture can work, but they typically always color the sound quite a bit, which is nice when you want that, or if you're going into a power amp sim, but otherwise can make different models and captures sound same-y... but them mentioning the hifi-ish tube circuit design and tone stack defeat combining so you can avoid changing the frequency response much in those scenarios has me thinking this would be a great frontend for people who like to use loud boosts / fuzzes or pickups, but don't want to clip their modeler / capture player (especially ones with more sensitive inputs like the Tonex).

It's too bad they didn't actually demo that, as while the price might be a bit high for just this use case, I could see a lot of people who use things like the Tonex, Nano Cortex, Iridium, UA amp pedals, and even the AM4 etc being interested in it. The only demoes I saw that were even close were people running it into power amp sims (like on the Two Notes pedals).

A demo of it in front of a Tonex, in boost mode (tone stack bypassed), and set to unity volume (boost output level turned down), and then taking loud boosts, fuzzes, treble boosters, etc, maybe A/Bed with it disengaged (those going straight into the Tonex), and switching through Tonex captures of totally different amps would be neat.
